154
The first item of business was the reading of a letter from Ex -Councilman
McCarthy in which he suggested certain changes in the policy to be
followed by the city in working out a retirement system. The letter
was ordered filed, and the Mayor named H. W. Edmonds (Chairman), Attorney
Mansfield, and City Manager Dimmitt as a committee to serve in place of
the former committee.
There was read a letter from A. H. Morgan, Jr., president of the Central
Park Improvement Club. Mr. Morgan protested the division of a 75 -foot
frontage on Iris Street between Harrison and Jefferson Avenue into two
lots of 371 feet each. The City Manager explained that the frontage
consisted of three 25 -foot lots, divided into two lots of 35 and 40
feet, and building permit was issued on the 35 -foot lot. Several prop-
erty owners, especially Mr. Eshelman, addressed the Council concerning
the desirability of maintaining actually a first residential district
in Central Park. In an effort to regulate or control the size of lots
and the buildings constructed on them in Central Park, the matter was
referred to the City Manager to work out with the City Attorney an
appropriate ordinance and to give the Building Inspector instructions
not to issue any building permits, in similar circumstances, without
the consent of the Council. This on motion of Councilman Fletcher,
seconded by Councilman Werder.
Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposed the intro-
duction of an ordinance repealing Ordinance No. 244 (fire crackers).
Carried.
There was ordered filed affidavit of C. L. Dimmitt for posting notices to
destroy weeds; following which, on motion of Councilman Fletcher,
seconded by Councilman McNulty, there was adopted resolution, No. 1940-1,
ordering the abatement of nuisance (weeds).
The Building Inspector submitted letter recommending that the building at the
corner of Bradford and Walnut Street be condemned because the house does
not comply with the building restrictions and cannot be made to do so.
The City Manager endorsed the recommendation of the Building Inspector,
and it was ordered on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Council-
man McNulty, that abatement proceedings be started.
There.was filed with the council a petition, signed by some 20 persons, request-
ing that something be done to remedy the flooded condition on the prop-
erty at Brewster Avenue between Opal and Hillview Streets. Petition re-
ferred to the City Manager.
