E,7i _a -4_A <br />City Clerk' <br />MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING <br />RMWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />FEBRUARY 27, 1939 <br />9:00 P.M. <br />Upon roll call the following were present: Councilmen H. F. Anderson, E. A. Fletcher, <br />Wm. Hohn, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, G. W. McNulty, Mayor L. C. Christensen, and <br />City Clerk B. E. Myers. <br />In a letter to the Council, Hare, Brewer & Kelley asked permission to erect a sign on E1 <br />Camino Real opposite the intersection of Wellesley Avenue, which sign would be 6 x <br />10 feet and advertise the Exposition Model'Home. On motion of Councilman McCarthy, <br />seconded by Councilman Fletcher, it was decided to give permission to erect the sign, <br />provided it remain specifically directional, omitting advertising and selling agency <br />names. <br />Mr. Doxsee, following up his request at a previous meeting for permission to erect sign <br />concerning Palomar Park, submitted a revised sketch and asked permission to erect <br />the sign according to this sketch. Permission was given on motion of Councilman <br />McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, provided that total space occupied by the <br />sign was not more than 6 x 10 or a total area of 60 square feet. <br />The principal purpose of the special meeting was to listen to a presentation of the Re- <br />creation Committee and a special committee of the Lions Club. The following addres- <br />sed the Council: L. E. Wolbert, Alfred Morton, J. P. Hagen, Frank Thompson, Wayne <br />Millington, W. Werder, and Mr. A. DeArmond. The primary purpose seemed to be to im- <br />press upon the Council two things: The necessity and desirability of an adequate re- <br />creational program and the urgency of securing a site as the first step. <br />7] <br />Three sites <br />were proposed, the most desirable one being a section bounded by Broadway, Chestnut, <br />
