212
MINUTES OF ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 12, 1940
10:00 A. M.
Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were, present: L. C. Christensen,
H. W. Edmonds, E. A. Fletcher, F. D. Granger, W. M. Werder, and City
Clerk B. E. Myers; absent, Mayor H. F. Anderson, and Councilman G. W.
McNulty.
In the absence of Mayor Anderson, Councilman Christensen was chosen to serve
as chairman for the meeting.
On motion of Councilman Edmonds, seconded by Councilman Werder, payment of
the following bills, approved by the Chamber of Commerce to be charged
to the City Advertising Fund, was authorized: "B" Photo Service, $1.54;
F. W. Thompson for Recreation Commission, $7.50.
In a letter to the Council, the Chamber of Commerce recommended the payment
of $150 for two pages of advertising in the Redwood City Tribune County
Fiesta Edition. On motion of Councilman Werder, seconded by Councilman
Granger, the expenditure was authorized.
Considerable discussion was had concerning the desirability of including in
the present budget a levy to take care of the requirements of joining the
State Employees' Retirement System. It was finally decided, however, on
motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Werder, to authorize
the City Manager to include in the budget and in the current fiscal levy
a five -cent special levy to take care of the requirements necessary to
set up the State Retirement Fund in Redwood City.
The adoption of the budget submitted by the City Manager came up for discussion,
and while there was some hesitancy about passing on it when two of the
Councilman were absent, nevertheless, Councilman Edmonds, seconded by
Councilman Granger, moved the adoption of the budget as submitted by the
City Manager plus the additional five -cent levy for State Retirement Fund.
Carried, with Councilmen Fletcher and Werder voting "No".
Adjournment.
BEM: HAS
City Clerk
11
