218 <br />s <br />I <br />Mr. Albert Morgan of the Cntral Park Improvement Club spoke about the tar weed <br />nuisance along the sidewalks in that section of the town, and also about <br />monkeys being maintained by a family on Lowell Street. Mr. Morgan also <br />invited the Council to an entertainment to be given by the Scouts and <br />cubs at the McKinley School auditorium September 6, 1940, at 7':j0 o'clock P.M. <br />Mr. Nordstrand who resides at the corner of James Avenue and Myrtle Street also <br />complained of the monkeys in his neighborhood. <br />In connection with this matter, the City Manager reported on complaints received <br />by him of nuisances created by chickens, goats and other animals and he <br />was directed to confer with the City Attorney in an effort to have an ord- <br />inance governing such matters ready by the next Council meeting. <br />Mr. Mish complained about a new house being constructed on Myrtle Street near <br />Madison, stating that no sidewalk had been provided. Matter referred to <br />Building Inspector and ordered placed upon the agenda, for the meeting of <br />October 7, 1940. <br />After a general discussion of the pending business license ordinance, on motion <br />of Councilman Edmand's, seconded by Councilman Werder, and carried, the <br />City Attorney was directed to prepare a new business license ordinance com- <br />bining the amendments that have been proposed to the pending ordinance. <br />Councilman Edmonds spoke on the Civil Service ordinance, suggesting certain <br />additions. Matter referred to the City Attorney with the direction that j <br />he add to the present ordinance the suggestions discussed by the Council <br />y <br />and that the matter be placed upon the agenda for the October 7 meeting. <br />On motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, ordin- <br />ance fixing the amount of money to be raised by taxation for the fiscal <br />year 1940-1941 and fixing the tax rate for said fiscal year was adopted <br />by unanimous vote. <br />Letter from the City Manager was presented recommending the rejection of bids <br />for the improvement of a portion of Lexington Avenue under Resolution <br />•of Intention No. 1940-4. On motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded <br />by Councilman Edmonds, and carried, all bids for said work that had been <br />heretofore received by the Council were rejected, and the matter was <br />i <br />ordered placed on the agenda for the first meeting in January, 1941. <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Christensen, the fol- <br />lowing resolution was unanimously adopted. <br />
