Mr. Duncan, the Building Inspector, stated that the <br />owner had secured a permit from the City Engineer's office, and was pre- <br />paring to construct a sidewalk. <br />Mr. Niccoll.presented Map of Oakwood Park No. 2, and on motion of Councilman <br />Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Werder, and carried, the same was <br />approved. <br />Oscar L. Brown spoke about the curb on Valota Road at Vera Avenue. City <br />Manager Dimmitt stated that the city was acquiring some lots on the <br />corners and was going to enlarge the curb returns to take care of the <br />matter. <br />An ordinance of the City of Redwood City creating and establishing a personnel <br />system for said city was presented. Mr. Nuckols spoke on, the matter, and <br />on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded'by Councilman Christensen, and <br />carried, the ordinance was unanimously adopted. <br />The matter of the parking ordinance came up and was ordered placed on the agenda <br />for the next meeting, as the Engineer's office was preparing certain maps <br />in connection therewith. <br />An ordinance adopting a plumbing code for the City of Redwood City was unanimously <br />adopted on motion of Councilman Werder, seconded by Councilman Fletcher. <br />C. G. Uhlenberg, the City Auditor, spoke on the auditor's report. <br />The matter of the extension of Poplar Street came up, and after considerable <br />discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Council- <br />man <br />ouncilman Christensen, and the City Manager was ordered to contract for the pur- <br />chase of the two lots required for a sum not exceeding $460. H. C. Munson <br />also spoke on the matter. Councilman Edmonds came into the meeting and <br />after further discussion, the motion heretofore made was withdrawn by the <br />mover and the second, and the matter ordered placed on the agenda for the <br />next meeting, November 4, 1940. On motion of Councilman Granger, seconded <br />by Councilman Fletcher, and carried, the foregoing matter was referred to <br />the Planning Commission for immediate report and also a request that a <br />yearly program of street openings be prepared. <br />In connection with the opening of a new street between Oak Avenue and Redwood <br />Avenue the same was ordered placed on the agenda for the next meeting, <br />November 4, 1940. <br />An ordinance licensing every kind of lawful business transacted or carried on <br />within the limits of the City of Redwood City,,and fixing the rate of <br />license tax upon the same and providing for the collection of said license <br />tax, came up for adoption.
