<br />A letter from R. A. de Li, painting contractor, complaining against the pro-
<br />visions of said business license ordinance relative to contractors was
<br />read and discussed by Mr. de Li.and the Council.
<br />On motion of Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman McNulty, and carried
<br />by unanimou's roll call, and ordinance licensing every kind of lawful
<br />business hereafter specified, transacted or carried on within the limits
<br />of the City of Redwood City, fixing the rate of license tax upon the same,
<br />and providing for the collection of said license was passed and adopted.
<br />A letter was received from the San Mateo County Realty Company protesting James
<br />Harder's chicken r,gnch and dogs located on Stafford Street near the north-
<br />westerly city limits, and as Mr. Weiner, the complainant, could not be
<br />present, the matter was placed on the agenda for the next meeting. Novem-
<br />ber 1E, and Mr. Harder was present, agreed to be back at that meeting.
<br />Letter from the Recreation Commission relative to a comprehensive program of
<br />additional playgrounds and parks was submitted, and the matter was ordered
<br />placed on the agenda for the next meeting, November 18, 1940, at E P. M.
<br />This being the time for hearing on the confirmation of street assessment under
<br />Resolution of Intention No. 1940-1 (sidewalks), on motion of Councilman
<br />McNulty, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, and carried, affidavits of
<br />publication, posting and mailing notices of said hearing were ordered filed.
<br />Several property owners appeared relative to said matter for the purpose
<br />of gaining information which was furnished to them by the City Manager and
<br />the City Engineer's office. Therewereno written protests of any kind
<br />made or oral protests made against the work or against.any determination��
<br />of the Superintendent of Streets in relation thereto, and upon motion of
<br />Councilman Werder, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, and carried,'the fol-
<br />lowing resolution was unanimously passed.
<br />"RESOLUTION CONFIRMING STREET ASSESSMENT No. 1940-1
<br />"WHEREAS, the assessment for street work done under that certain
<br />contract dated the 2nd day of July, 1940, between PETER SORENSEN, first
<br />party, and C. L. DIMMITT, as Superintendent of Streets of the City of
<br />Redwood City, second party, for the doing of all street work mentioned
<br />and described in Resolution of Intention No. 1940-1, passed and adopted
<br />by the Council of the City of Redwood City on the 6th day of May, 1940,
<br />and now on file in the office of the Clerk of said City, to which
<br />Resolution of Intention reference is hereby made for a description of
<br />said work, was filed in the office of the Clerk of the City of Redwood
<br />City on the 11th day of October, 1940; and
<br />WHEREAS said City Clerk did thereupon fix Monday, the 4th day of
<br />November, 1940, at the hour of 8:00 o'clock P.M. of said day, at the
<br />meeting place of the Council of the City of Redwood City in the Council
<br />Chamber in the City Hall on Middlefield Road in the City of Redwood
<br />City as the time and place for a hearing on said assessment, as required
<br />by law, and as the time and place for making written objections thereto,
