C <br />on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Werder, that <br />the full purchase price amounting to $1900 be refunded to Mr. Fritschen; <br />City Attorney Mansfield to see that property is returned to City free <br />and clear. <br />In.response to a request by the American National Red Cross, it was decided <br />upon motion of Councilman Fletcher., seconded by Councilman Edmonds, and <br />carried, that the City contribute the sum of $75 to this organization. <br />F. W. Thompson, in a letter addressed to the City Council, requested,that the <br />City obtain broken pavement, etc. from E1 Camino Real to be used for the <br />purpose of filling in creek banks and lots which could be used for park - <br />Ing areas. This matter was referred to the City Manager. <br />The matter of lighting the pedestrian lanes at the intersection of El Camino <br />Real and Brewster Avenue was discussed and the placing of flood lights <br />at this location at an approximate cost of $100 was approved on motion <br />of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Werder, and carried. <br />The matter of pedestrian lanes across E1 Camino Real at the intersections of <br />Whipple Avenue and Claremont Avenue was also discussed, and the City <br />�4anager and Chief of Police were instructed to investigate these.loca- <br />tions and report at the next meeting. <br />The Redwood City Commuters Club submitted a proposal that.the Council consider <br />the acquisition of "Butcher Field".for a recreation center. The proposal <br />stated that this property was owned by the Southern Pacific Company and <br />possibly could be acquired'for 055,000. Paul McCarthy, representing the <br />Commuters Club, addressed the Council in support of the proposal and ex- <br />plained in detail the many desirable and advantageous features of the <br />site. Discussion by members of the Council ensued, and it was suggested <br />that the Commuters Club submit'its proposal to the Recreation Commission <br />'for their consideration. <br />The report of the committee in connection with the opening of a street between <br />Oak and Redwood Avenues was read. After discussion, the matter was re- <br />ferred back to the committee for a.further report at the next meeting. <br />The matter of the Redwood City Waste'Disposal Yard was discussed and left in <br />the hands of the City Manager. <br />Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposed adoption of <br />Ordinance No. 449 annexing certain uninhabited property belonging to <br />Harry Friend and wife and commonly known as East Redwood City Industrial <br />District, to the City of Redwood City.
