<br />Mr. S. J.Furnivalt addressed the Council concerning the establishment of a recreational
<br />center in the eastern -part of town and explained that he had circulated a petition
<br />among the business men along Main Street and Broadway, indicating their desire to have
<br />this center located within that region. He filed the petition with the Clerk.
<br />On motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman McCarthy, permit to conduct a restau-
<br />rant at 913 Main Street was granted to Wun Art and Sam Lee.
<br />The City Attorney reported about the Ruellan case and stated that it was necessary to make
<br />a payment of $3500 to clear it up. However, he was instructed, on motion of Council-
<br />man McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, to rpake an offer of $3200.
<br />Mr. B. J. Smith, representing property owners in the Sweeney Ranch Subdivision, spoke to
<br />the Council about possibility of annexing this territory to the City of Redwood City
<br />and also that he was to appear before the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, March 21,
<br />and would like to have an expression of the attitude of the Council toward this an-
<br />nexation. The Clerk was instructed to notify the County Clerk that the Council looked
<br />with favor upon the nroposal.
<br />Mr. J. P. Hagan, representing; the members of the Recreation Committee, indicated that it
<br />was their desire to utilize the property along Broadway and Spring Street as a temporary
<br />baseball -park. The City Manager indicated that to install the necessary back stop and
<br />bleachers and to surface the ground sufficiently for play would cost an estimated amount
<br />of $1250. Councilman Fletcher thought it desirable to go ahead with the project and
<br />so moved, seconded by Councilman Anderson, provided that not more than $1250 be expended.
