On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty and <br />carried, the City Collector was authorized to consummate the contract <br />of sale. <br />The Collector also submitted the following letter: <br />"I submit herewith for your approval a proposed agreement <br />for purchase of Lots 17, 19,19, 20, 22, 23, and 24 in Block 2 <br />Of the Wallace Subdivision by Emil G. Steinegger. The purchase <br />price is 0300 per lot or a total of $2100, for the seven lots, <br />of which 6240 has been already paid, the balance,in 3 annual <br />installments of $620 each." <br />The City Collector was authorized to execute this, contract of sale on <br />motion of Councilman.Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Werder, and carried. <br />There was read a letter from Redwood City Post #105, The American Legion, <br />relative to a meeting to be held on December 13, 1940, for the purpose <br />of organizing a Redwood City Home Defense':Unit and extending an invita- <br />tion to have.a representative of the city meet with them. Councilman <br />Granger expressed his willingness to attend and was appointed by Mayor <br />Anderson to represent the City Council at the meeting. <br />There was presented a petition from the Veterans Welfare Board requesting <br />cancellation of taxes on property owned by the Board as follows: <br />Lots 10 and il, Block 1, Sub. of Lot 16, W W & M Subdivision, <br />assessed to Michael Supina and Alyce Supina. <br />Lots 25 and 26, Block 7, Central Park; assessed to Edward J. <br />Carr and Martha Carr. <br />The City Collector advised that taxes on the above properties for the <br />year 1940-1941 amounted to $4.69 and $6.70 respectively, and recommended <br />cancellation as requested by the Board. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, <br />seconded by Councilman Werder, and carried, the City Collector was author- <br />ized to cancel the taxes for the year 1940=1941, but before doing so to <br />obtain affidavits from the Veteran Contract Holders confirming their <br />eligibility to receive veterans' exemption. <br />Application for a permit to operate a used car lot at 721 Highway was received <br />from Towne Motor Co. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Coun- <br />oilman McNulty, permit,was granted. <br />On motion of Councilman Werder, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the applies - <br />tion of Mary N. Banta for a permit to board and care for elderly people <br />at•334 Brewster,Avenue (Northeast corner of Duane Street) was referred to <br />the Planning Commission. <br />Councilman Werder, a member of the Committee on the opening of a street con- <br />necting Oak and Redwood Avenues asked that this matter be held over until <br />the next meeting. <br />
