256, <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 6, 1941 <br />5:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call the following were present: Councilmen E. A. Fletcher, <br />F. D. Granger, G. W. McNulty, W. M. Werder, Mayor H.. F: Anderson, <br />and City Clerk C. W. Eltringham; absent, Councilmen L. C. Christensen <br />and H. W. Edmonds. <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of December 16, 1940, and the adjourned <br />regular meeting of December 21, 1940, were approved on motion of <br />Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty. <br />A letter from Lawrence Scudder & Co. relative to their periodical examination <br />of the accounts and records of the City was ordered filed. <br />On motion of Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the Kensington <br />Square Improvement Club was granted permission to hold a meeting in the <br />Council Chambers on Friday evening, January 10, 1941. <br />There was read a letter from the Redwood City Parks and Recreation Commission <br />recommending to the City Council that a bond issue in the amount of <br />$100,000 be issued for the purchase and development of Butcher Field and <br />for the development of all existing recreational facilities. Paul McCarthy <br />and Lloyd Moore, members of the Redwood City Commuters Club, addressed <br />the Council in support of the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation <br />Commission. <br />Port Commissioners Henry Beeger and Edmund Scott advised the Council of the <br />necessity for additional facilities at the Port. They explained that <br />the extent of the improvements would necessitate financing by a bond <br />issue, and while they were not yet in a position to state the amount <br />thereof, it was deemed advisable, in view of the recommendation of the <br />Parks and Recreation Commission, to inform the Council of their plans <br />at this time. <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Werder, action on <br />i <br />the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Commission was postponed <br />until the next meeting, January 20, 1941, at which time the plans and <br />report of the Port Commission would be submitted. The City Manager was <br />requested, however, to obtain from the Southern Pacific Company a 90 -day <br />option for the purchase of Butcher Field. <br />Frank McAuliffe addressed the Council in connection with his suggestions and <br />plans for improvement of swimming and playground facilities at Yacht <br />
