On motion of Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, per- <br />mission was granted Elizabeth and Eugene Badger to operate a pool <br />and billiard hall at 2074 Broadway in conjunction with their present <br />business. <br />Mayor Anderson announced a meeting of the�Civil Service and the Retirement <br />Committees would be held on Friday evening, January 17, 1941. <br />The City Manager advised the estimated cost of placing electroliers and <br />underground conduits on El Camino Real was $26,383.37• <br />Mr. Mish informed the Council of inadequate drainage at the intersection <br />of Madison and Myrtle Streets. This matter was referred to the City <br />Manager. <br />Councilman Granger called the attention of the Council to flood conditions <br />on Broadway east' of California Street. The City Manager explained <br />the recent flood in this area had just been brought to his attention, <br />and the'eause was being investigated. <br />The dip at the intersection of Brewster Avenue and Fulton Street was discussed, <br />and it was suggested this matter be considered when preparing the next <br />budget. <br />Councilman Granger reported that a lot facing on California Street, between <br />Broadway and Montgomery Streets, and owned by A. B. Cheatham was available <br />for use as a parking lot provided the City would furnish the labor and <br />materials necessary for surfacing. The necessity for additional parking <br />areas was expressed by members of the Council, but no action was taken. <br />Police Chief Collins advised the Council of difficulties encountered in ob- <br />taining Federal permission for the two-way radio system, but expressed <br />the belief that permission would be granted soon. <br />Building Inspector Duncan was directed to investigate the premises at Katherine <br />and Grand Streets and to report at the next meeting whether or not the <br />rooms above the garage are being offered for rent for housekeeping purposes. <br />Councilman Fletcher reported a complaint relative to the collection of garbage. <br />The City Manager was directed to bring the matter to the attention of the <br />garbage collectors and to advise them to make no collections before 6:00 A.M. <br />Departmental reports were ordered filed. <br />Approved claims aggregating $47,444.56 were ordered paid on motion of Councilman <br />McNulty, seconded'by Councilman Granger. <br />Adjournment. <br />CWE:HAS C.
