M1 <br />I <br />hereintefore referred to herein, be and,the same is hereby approved and <br />adopted and the Super nteriderit of Streets of said City of Redwood City <br />is here'y directed to attach..a warrant thereto and deliver same to the <br />contractor, as -required by law." <br />Al Davies of Davies Auto Company informed the Council that -the present lease <br />-on the companyts used car lot would expire on or about January 31, 1941, <br />and"that arrangements had been made with the Southern Pacific Company for <br />the use of a portion of Butcher Field (either the north or south 200 feet <br />fronting on E1 Camino Real) for a used car lot, pending the outcome of <br />negotiation for the acquisition of a portion of the property. Mr. Davies <br />stated, at this time, he desired permission of the Council to re -locate <br />the used car lot on the above property and exhibited drawings of a build- <br />ing which was contemplated to be erected when the property was acquired. <br />In yiew.of.the fact that other matters relating to "Butcher Field11 were <br />to be considered, the matter was deferred until later in the meeting. <br />After hearing discussions relative to the proposed bond issues for Port <br />development and for the acquisition of Butcher Field by the City for <br />recreation and park 'purposes, Councilman Werder proposed that the Davies <br />Auto Company be granted permission to re -locate their used car lot on <br />Butcher Field. This motion lost, however, for lack of a second. After <br />considerable discussion, a motion was introduced by Councilman Werder, �I <br />And'seconded by Councilman McNulty, granting permission to the -Davies ([!ff! <br />Auto Company to move the used car lot to Butcher Field for such time <br />as may be required to determine the result of the proposed bond issue <br />for the acquisition of this property by the City and that improvements <br />be made thereon only to the extent of necessary fill and macadam surfac- <br />ing. Motion carried. <br />Edmund Scott, a member of the Redwood City Port Commission, addressed the <br />Council in connection with proposed improvements at the Port. Mr. Scott <br />explained the growth of the Port and that present facilities were in- <br />adequate, and in the opinion of the Port Commission limited the further <br />growth of the Port. It was also explained there were satisfactory assur- <br />ances of increased shipping provided adequate facilities, consisting of <br />extensions to the wharf, larger transit shed, dredging of the channel and <br />turning basin, and other miscellaneous items, were made. The Port Com- <br />mission recommended that the improvements be made now and that 20 year <br />municipal bonds in the amount of $150,000 be issued to finance the project. <br />J�The matter of issuing municipal bonds in the amount of $100.,000 for the purchase <br />of Butcher Field as a recreation site and for the improvement of existing <br />i <br />
