Lloyd Moore, Paul McCarthy, B..Nordstrand, <br />and Wrex Cruse, all members of the Commuters Club, .urged that action be <br />1 taken now to acquire Butcher Field, and it was pointed out by Mr. Moore <br />that since the Southern Pacific Company had declined to grant the city <br />a 90 -day optiofi on this property and had elected to sell the property <br />immediately for commercial purposes, condemnation proceedings should be <br />III instituted at once -to hold the site pending the outcome of a special bond <br />election. A letter from Earle Clegg, also a member of the Commuters <br />Club, was read. <br />r On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, and on roll <br />call carried by unanimous vote of the.councilmen .present, it was decided <br />g <br />that the City Attorney proceed to call a special election for the purpose <br />of issuing municipal bonds for improvements at the Port in the amount of <br />$150,000'and for park and recreation purposes in the.amount of'$100,000. <br />The request`of the City Attorney to obtain the services of Mr. Herrington of <br />the law firm of Orrick, Palmquist, Ness and Herrington in connection with <br />the above bond issues was granted on motion of Councilman.McNulty, seconded <br />by Councilman Fletcher. <br />j Mr. Keith and Mr. Moore spoke on the bus matter, and it was susggested that they <br />I meet on Friday evening, January 24, 1941, with the committee appointed by <br />the Mayor and the matter be placed on thg agenda for the next regular <br />meeting. <br />1 Joseph Fitzpatrick, representing Mr. James harder, stated that his client was <br />i <br />desirous of complying with each and every request of the Health Department, <br />but pointed out that to comply with the demandytto connect sanitary facilities <br />to existing sewer -line" would necessitate the installation of approximately <br />j 465 feet of sewer pipe and suggested that the present septic tank which had <br />been used for a number of years be accepted in lieu of this change. John <br />j t <br />W. Fickeisen of the Health Department explained that compliance with all <br />items indicated in the Department's report, dated December 30, 1940, were <br />{ f mandatory and that the use of a septic tank in this case was a violation <br />of State laws. On motion of Councilman Werder,.seconded'by Councilman <br />McNulty, and carried, Mr. Harder was directed to comply with all the recom- <br />mendations set forth in the report of the Health Department, dated Dec- <br />ember 30, 1940- <br />i <br />The proposed ordinance regulating the keeping of goats, chickens, etc. was <br />f ordered placed on the agenda for the next regular meeting. <br />
