2%96
ordinance the inspector must determine if the building is constructed accord-
ing to plans and specifications filed at the time of applying for a permit
and that the cost of construction of the building is not in excess of
the amount stated in the permit. The above letter was then ordered
filed, and the City Manager and City Attorney directed to reply to Mr.
Callogg's letter and explain the position of the Council in this matter
and to furnish a copy of this letter to each member of the Council.
Councilman Fletcher reported that progress was being made on the parking lot
situation but that no definite report could be made at this time.
Councilman Werder came into the meeting.
Reports of the Building Inspector and Fire Chief relative to the house owned
by Orland Potter, 135 Nueva Street, were read. Mr. Dewey Brown who had
previously appeared before the Planning Commission and the City Council
in connection with this matter stated that there was apparently some mis-
understanding about his complaint and that he had no complaint to make
against the appearance of the house or of its occupants, the question
being if this property could be sold and occupied by someone other than
present owners without improvements being made thereto. Mr. Potter stated
in reply that it was his desire to build a new home on this property as
soon as he was able to do so and that he had no intention of selling and,
therefore,'since the matter was settled so far as the complaining parties
were concerned, it was ordered dropped.
In connection with matters of this nature, Councilman Granger offered a motion
instructing the City Manager to devise a plan whereby the city employee
l- removing the water meter from apparently undesirable buildings report to
him and that before the water meter be reinstalled for a new tenant a
sanitary inspection be made by the Health Department. This motion lost
for a lack of a second. The feasibility of such a plan was discussed,
however, and ordered placed on the agenda for the next meeting.
Norman Menifee, representing Mr. R. F. Martin, operator of the Redwood City
Bus Line, asked that the matter of approval of the franchise be held over
for the next meeting. He also asked that the payment to Mr. Martin in the
- amount of $300, as provided in the original proposal, be made at this time.
Approval of the above payment was given on motion of Councilman Fletcher,
seconded by Councilman Werder.
The City Manager asked that his report on Oxford. Street flood condition be
held over until the next meeting.
11
