L!� <br />i <br />employees group insurance plans, but in view of,the establishment of <br />aeretirement,fund for city employees, the opinion of the Council with <br />respect to continuance of the grouh..insurance policy was requested. <br />After discussion, the City'Manager was directed to determine if the <br />employees wished to continue a group life insurance plan by paying the <br />full amount of the premium. <br />A protest against violation of zoning ordinance by Julia Blass for conducting <br />a boarding and rooming house at 64 Grand Street was read. Mrs. Blass <br />stated she purchased this home a few years ago as a dwelling, but due <br />to circumstances, has been required to find some means of income and <br />has taken in roomers and boarders. She also stated that she plans to <br />discontinue this practice in November and asked that the,matter be held <br />over until that time. Paul McCarthy.;-, representing the protectants, <br />asked that the nuisance be abated at once. On motion of Councilman <br />Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, offered a motion directing <br />Mrs. Blass to discontinue the conduct of the rooming and .boarding house <br />within the next thirty days. Councilman Werder, However, felt that <br />this was too short a time and asked that the time limit be extended <br />for a period of ninety days. On vote, the original motion carried, with <br />Councilman Werder voting f'No". <br />On motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Granger, the City <br />Manager was authorized to offer Floyd L. Baird the sum of °87.50 for <br />release of any interest he may have in property purchased on contract , <br />from the city. <br />Mrs. Fredrick L. Baker, 247 Grand Street, presented a claim in the amount <br />of .60.50 for expenses incurred in connection with an injury allegedly, <br />sustained while leaving the polling place at 222 Lowell Street, Redwood <br />City, on March 25,`19,41. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, Seconded <br />by Councilman Werder, claim was denied. <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, an ordi- <br />nance creating a local defense council and prescribing its duties and <br />responsibilities was introduced. <br />Walter Maloney addressed the Council and asked that the Mayor invite mayors <br />of all San Mateo County and adjacent cities to -attend the Fourth of <br />July celebration. He also asked that the city contribute the sum of <br />.20.00 for a parade trophy. Grant6d--on motion,of Councilman Werder, <br />seconded by Councilman Fletcher. <br />� 3 <br />
