Schaberg Memorial, said memorial to be of such character as <br />the Library Board shall deem proper. The City Treasurer advised that a <br />check in the amount of $20,000 was received with this letter and was de- <br />posited in a separate bank account in the First National Bank. f <br />In connection with the demand of'F. L. Baird for refund to him of the sum of <br />$185.00 paid on the account of contract for the purchase of 'Lot 12,, Block 19, <br />Central; Park, Mr. Baird was represented -by his attorney, A. J. Harwood, who <br />submitted an affidavit signed by Mr. Baird stating his demand for refund <br />was based upon the fact that the contract provided for subdivision of the <br />property into three parcels, which was denied by the Planning Commission. <br />C. H. Holt, who made this sale'to Mr. Baird, stated that the change made <br />in the original contract for subdivision of the property into two parcels <br />instead of three parcels was made with Mr. Baird's knowledge and that at <br />no time, while he was handling real estate matters for the city, did Mr. <br />Baird express any dissatisfaction with this particular contract. After <br />discussion and on motion of Councilman Werder, seconded by Councilman <br />Fletcher, it was 'agreed that the sum of $87.50 (the difference between the <br />amount paid by Mr. Baird and commission paid Holt on this sale) be reoffered <br />to F. L. Baird in settlement of this matter. <br />H. S. KaTlam, an engineer in the employ of the Southern Pacific Co., appeared <br />before the Council.to enlist the support of the City in endeavoring to <br />obtain permisssion from -the State Division of Highways for an opening in <br />the center strip on E1 Camino Real at'the intersection of.Harrison Street. <br />He explained that this opening was desired for the purpose of permitting <br />southbound trucks loaded with freight to make a left turn at this point <br />without the necessity of going north to James Street and making a u -turn. <br />He also explained that the Division of Highways had been requested to leave <br />an opening in the center strip but had refused to do so. After discussion, <br />this matter was ordered held over until the next meeting. <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Christensen, McCloud <br />Motor Co. was granted permission for a used car lot in the rear of their <br />new car showroom on Broadway. Request of Mr. McCloud for ONo Parking' signs <br />near the service entrance of his building was, on motion of Councilman <br />Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Werder, referred to the City Manager and <br />Chief of'Police Department. <br />V <br />a <br />N <br />zlf <br />
