350 M Protests signed by approximately 150 property owners and residents, asking that the Council take such action as may be necessary to prevent the installation of the center division strip on El Camino Real were read. There was also read a letter from Jnb.:. H. Skeggs, District Engineer, Division of Highways, calling attention to the advantages of this type of highway construction, particularly with reference to safety for pedestrians and requesting the Council to decline to alter its previous approval. The matter was discussed at length by members of the Council and other interested parties, and finally, in line with a suggestion by the City Manager, Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Granger, offered a motion requesting the Division of Highways that openings be left in the center division strip at all street intersections'and ter- mination of streets but that no other changes be made affecting the center division strip. Mr. Gurley, representing Fat Boy Barbecue Cabins, Ltd., inquired about a rumor that Lathrop Street may be closed at the intersection of El Camino Real. ,The City Manager advised that this was "Just an ideal' advanced by a right-of-way agent of the Divison of Highways and had never been 'given consideration. There being no one present from the San Mateo County Housing Authority, this matter was ordered held over until the next meeting. The bus matter was also held over until the next meeting as,neither Mr. Menifee or Mr. Martin were present. Ordinance No. 464, "An ordinance fixing the amount of money to be raised by taxation for the fiscal year 1941-4211, was unanimougly adopted on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Fletcher. Julia Blass, 64 Grand Street, appeared before the Council in response to a request by the City Mahager to show cause why she had not discon- tinued the operation of a rooming and boarding house at the above address, as directed on June 2, 1941. Mrs. Blass stated it was im- possible for her to discontinue the business in the 30 day period allotted,and due to illness had not requested additional time but now felt that by September 1 she Vould have no boarders or roomers other than members of her immediate family. Councilman Werder, seconded by Councilman Granger, then offered a motion extending to September 2 the time in which this business must be discontinued. Motion carried. 3 11 �u M
