360 <br />1 <br />Amendment'to Section .1 of Rule VIII' <br />"A residence of at 'least one year in Redwood City immediately prior <br />to employment shall be required unless the fact can be established <br />that -there exists a lack of qualified applicants resident within the <br />corporate limits. Residence shall be evidenced by sworn affidavits <br />of applicants." <br />Amendment to, Rule XI <br />Section 1-A.' "The following are recognized as legal holidays: <br />January 1, New Year's Day; February 22, Washingtonls Birthday; May 30, <br />Memorial Day; July 4, Independence Day; first Monday of September, <br />Labor Day; September 9, Admission Day; November 11, Armistice Day; <br />Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. <br />Any employee who -works on any of the above named days shall be given <br />leave to compensate for the time worked." <br />The proposed amendment rendering a married woman ineligible as an applicant <br />was referred to the City Attorney and City Manager for consideration. <br />Thi's being the time set for hearing on Ordinance No. 467 and there being <br />no protests, the affidavit of publication was ordered filed. Council- <br />man Werder, seconded by Councilman McNulty, then proposed the adoption <br />of Ordinance No. 467,'"An ordinance removing the set back lines on the <br />westerly side of Middlefield Road between Marshall Street and Bradford <br />Street, on the southerly side of Bradford Street between Middlefield <br />Road and Hamilton Street, on the easterly side of Hamilton Street be- <br />tween Bradford Street and Marshall Street, and on the northerly side <br />of Marshall Street between Hamilton Street and Middlefield Road in <br />the City of Redwood City, and directing'the City Engineer to changer, <br />the official set back line map in conformity herewith". Carried by <br />unanimous vote of the councilmen present. <br />A letter from Helen Ada Smith requesting reconsideration of her applies - <br />tion to remain in the employ of the City for a period of six months <br />after her forthcoming marriage was, oh motion of Councilman Granger, <br />seconded by Councilman Fletcher, referred to the City Manager.' <br />On motion of Councilman Werder, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the City <br />Collector was authorized to enter into a contract with Floyd C.
