& this City Council deplores the great loss felt not only by the public officers of Redwood City but also by his fellow citizens and friends. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that vie record here that as a lawyer Albert Mansfield possessed exceptional skill and was a convincing advocate who possessed sound judgment and unswerving loyalty to any cause which he espoused; that as a public official he had an open mind to hear and weigh the merits of each side of any public question and when he had reached a decision he per- sisted staunchly in striving for public welfare in the execution of his official duties; that as a citizen he had an unusual under- standing of human nature, and sympathy for justice for every man and a character imbued with true ideals of Americanism derived from his mother and father; and that as an individual he was a warm friend, loving and tolerant toward his fellow -men, and in turn beloved by a host of friends who knew and felt his generosity and gallantry. FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be.entered in the minutes of this Council, certified and forwarded to his beloved mother and his wife." Resolutions accepting quitclaim deeds from R. Oles and James H. and Katherine Addison were unanimously adopted on motion of Councilman Werder, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Councilman Fletcher brought up the matter of endeavoring to obtain a sub post office in the vicinity of Broadway and E1 Camino Real; also that + in some sections of the City the Post office Department does not de- liver mail. After discussion it was decided to again take this matter up with Postal Authorities and the City Clerk was directed to present for approval at the next meeting, a letter addressed to Congressman J. Z. Anderson soliciting his support in the matter. In connection with the Pacific Gas & Electric Company transmission poles located in the sidewalk on the easterly side of Jefferson Avenue be- tween Broadway and Middlefield Road, the City Attorney reported that the City may be liable for damageslin event of injury to a pedestrian unless some type of visible markings were placed on the poles. Follow- ing this, on motion of Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, it was directed that the Pacific Gas & Electric Company be requested to paint white stripes or some other suitable form of marking, on these poles. Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman Werder offered a motion, which car- ried unanimously, directing that a letter be sent to the Board of Super- visors, County of San Mateo, requesting when data already submitted to the County Executive is presented to the Board, that funds be provided for a street lighting system along the easterly side of E1 Camino Real, south of Redwood City limits, comparable to that provided by the City on the West- erly side of El Camino Real in this area.
