.4 <br />Working time for all other crafts shall be reckoned by the half-day and <br />full day except in case of inclement weather or incompetence, when time <br />shall be reckoned by the hour. <br />The foregoing schedule of per diem wages is based upon a working day of <br />eight hours except as otherwise noted. The hourly wage rate prescribed <br />hereinabove is the per diem rate divided by the aforementioned number <br />of hours constituting a working day. . <br />The above schedule of wage rates is the general prevailing rate of per <br />diem wages for work of a similar character in the locality in which the <br />work described above is to be performed. <br />Rates for legal holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays shall be double the <br />rates hereinabove described. <br />Rates for overtime shall be one and one-half (12) times the rates here- <br />inabove described; overtime shall be reckoned by the hour or half hour. <br />AU foremen to receive $1.00 per day minimum above the highest paid <br />Laborer over whom they have supervision." <br />Councilman Fletcher mentioned the annoyance applicants for driving licenses were suffer- <br />ing because of the lack of personnel in the Highway Patrol office and in accord with <br />this discussion, moved, seconded by Councilman Anderson, that the Clerk be instructed <br />to write a letter about it. Motion carried. <br />A Mr. Burke asked permission to build on his lot on Quartz Street a building which exceeded <br />the width allowed by ordinance, but it was thought best not to grant it, and it was so <br />ordered on motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman McNulty. <br />R. D. Raines of 346 Grand Street filed a letter with the Council protesting very strongly <br />against permitting to remain the four houses now being built on a 50 foot lot adjacent <br />to his lot by L. G. Hersey, 350 Grand St. In his letter Mr. Raines said the presence <br />of the dwellings is ridiculous and that his property is damaged by their closeness <br />and general appearance and that he has no privacy in his own home. Considerable dis- <br />cussion ensued in which the members of the Council indicated a sympathetic attitude <br />toward the situation in which Mr. Raines was placed, but were unable to find any way <br />to ameliorate the situation legally. Finally, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, <br />seconded by Councilman Anderson, the City Manager and the City Attorney were instructed <br />to take whatever legal steps were possible to change the situation or to remedy the <br />difficulty, and thoroughly to prosecute any violation which might be found. <br />The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Council- <br />man Anderson. <br />Adjournment. <br />E DI <br />City Clerk <br />
