52 <br />0 <br />In a letter to the Council, the Chamber of Commerce, by its Secretary, <br />recommended the expenditure of about 027.50 from the Advertising <br />Fund for the purchase of 1,000 ribbon badges, primarily for those <br />who would attend the exposition on San Mateo County Day. The ex- <br />penditure was authorized on motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded <br />by Councilman McCarthy. <br />Permission was granted to Joseph Cykman to operate a restaurant at 901 <br />Main Street under the name of "Redwood Pharmacy". <br />Hare, Brewer & Kelley, realtors of Palo Alto, in a letter to the Council <br />i <br />asked permission to erect two subdivision signs referring to the <br />Exposition Model Home and to other home sites, signs to be located <br />on Lot 9, Block 9, and Lot 14, Block 42 Edgewood Park. On motion <br />of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Anderson, it was <br />decided to grant permission to erect these signs at least for the <br />duration of the Model Homes Exhibit or not later than the closing <br />of the Exposition; provided further, that if placing the name of <br />the firm on the sign was in conflict with the ordinance governing <br />the erection of such signs that the City Manager take the necess- <br />ary steps to make the signs conform to the ordinance. <br />The Clerk read a long letter from William 11. Enomoto in explanation of <br />his requirements in the way of greenhouses near Gordon Street and <br />also a letter from the Greater South Redwood Improvement Club pro- <br />testing the erection of any more greenhouses or cheesecloth cover- <br />ed enclosures. No action was taken. <br />The Parks and Recreation Commission, by its secretary, filed the follow - <br />Ing letter: <br />OAt the regular monthly meeting of the Redwood City <br />Parks and Recreation Commission May 19, 1939, the follow- <br />ing recommendation was voted for presentation to the City <br />Council of the City of Redwood City. <br />a) That future burials in Union Cemetery on Woodside <br />Road be prevented to as great an extent as possible. <br />b) TYat provision for the abandonment of the area as a <br />burial ground be made with an eye to the eventual conver- <br />sion of the area into a municipal park. <br />c) That in all future years the Parks and Recreation <br />Commission shall not recommend for appropriation in its <br />budget any sums for the annual clearance of the cemetery, <br />since in practice the money expended for that purpose has <br />kept the cemetery in presentable condition only for a short <br />time preceding and following each Memorial Day, May 30." <br />Although considerable discussion ensued, no definite action was <br />taken. <br />
