59
Three resolutions were filed asking that something be done to cover the
creek between Broadway and Middlefield Road. No action was taken
other than to ask the City Engineer to provide an estimate of the
cost of constructing a culvert to cover the creek.
L. E. Wolbert, representing the Lions Club, requested the Council to
make some provision for a softball court for children on the east
side of town, having in mind a lot near the corner of Broadway and
Chestnut Street. He indicated that the lot would be furnished and
materials for lighting and other equipment would also be supplied
i
with the city doing the necessary work of installing'such equip-
ment and preparing the field for play at an estimated total cost of
not more than $100. With this figure in mind and with the under-
standing that it should cost no more than +100, the City Manager
was instructed to proceed with the work on motion of Councilman
Anderson, seconded by Councilman McNulty.
This was the time for the hearing on the question of the annexation of
Friendly Acres District. Affidavit of publication was ordered
filed on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman
Anderson. The protests which had been submitted were also order-
ed filed on motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman
Jones. Following this, George F. Paul was duly strorn in by the
Clerk and questioned by the City Attorney concerning Mr. Paul's
checking of the protests, and Mr. Paul's statement indicated that
there were 482 parcels in the district and that the protests repre-
sented 197 parcels. On the basis of these figures, Councilman
McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Anderson, moved, and carried, that
protests were not made by the owners of the majority of the separate
parcels of property within the territory proposed to be annexed.
After considerable discussion concerning confusion in regard'to pro-
tests and the desirability of calling an election if there were any
possibility of the election not carrying, it was finally decided,
on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Anderson,
to introduce ordinance calling a special election for the purpose
of deciding the annexation of Friendly Acres.
The departmental reports were ordered filed.
The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty,
seconded by Councilman Anderson.
Adjournment.
City Clerk
:HAS
