55 <br />Authorization given on motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by <br />Councilman McNulty. <br />Charles H. Holt submitted to the council a map of a subdivision along <br />IN Broadway from Maple to Beech and down to Spring Street. On motion <br />of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, it was <br />ordered that "Map No. 1 of Broadway" be and the same is hereby <br />approved; that all streets, alleys, avenues, or places shown upon <br />said map are hereby accepted as public streets and such. Mr. Holt <br />also asked permission to erect a temporary office building of frame <br />structure and was given permission for a period of six months on <br />motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher. He <br />also asked permission to erect at the corner of Broadway and Chestnut <br />a sign 10' x 35'. Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Jones, <br />proposed that he be given the permit, but Councilman McCarthy, <br />seconded by Councilman Hohn, moved to amend his motion so that the <br />sign would be 10' x 161, and on putting the motion, the amendment <br />carried 4 to 2, with Councilman Fletcher and Councilman Jones vot- <br />ing "No". It was understood the sign would remain for six months. <br />H. Stephens came before the Council to invite participation in the dedica- <br />tion at the Herman Fleishman Playground to be held June 29, at 7:30 <br />P.M. and explained that the Redwood City Volunteer Veteran Firemen <br />Association would provide the necessary lighting installation. <br />David Bohannon, property owner along Bayshore Highway, addressed the <br />' Council concerning the proposed annexation of Friendly Acres and <br />indicated that he considered it a "premature move." Harry Friend <br />also protested the annexation and especially the fact that he had <br />not been able to file at a previous meeting the number of protests <br />to which he was entitled, and at this meeting did file protests am- <br />ounting to approximately 300. R. A. Oles, a builder in the tract, <br />also filed 15 protests and addressed the Council concerning the <br />difficulty of his continuing construction were the district annexed <br />to Redwood'City. Other discussion followed, but neverthesless it <br />was finally decided, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by <br />Councilman Hohn, to adopt Ordinance No. 426 calling a special elec- <br />tion to decide the annexation of the so-called "Friendly Acres" <br />district. <br />James Hagan,for the Parks and Recreation Commission, reported on the com- <br />mittees selection tion of a site for the community recreational center. <br />
