55
Authorization given on motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by
Councilman McNulty.
Charles H. Holt submitted to the council a map of a subdivision along
IN Broadway from Maple to Beech and down to Spring Street. On motion
of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, it was
ordered that "Map No. 1 of Broadway" be and the same is hereby
approved; that all streets, alleys, avenues, or places shown upon
said map are hereby accepted as public streets and such. Mr. Holt
also asked permission to erect a temporary office building of frame
structure and was given permission for a period of six months on
motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher. He
also asked permission to erect at the corner of Broadway and Chestnut
a sign 10' x 35'. Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Jones,
proposed that he be given the permit, but Councilman McCarthy,
seconded by Councilman Hohn, moved to amend his motion so that the
sign would be 10' x 161, and on putting the motion, the amendment
carried 4 to 2, with Councilman Fletcher and Councilman Jones vot-
ing "No". It was understood the sign would remain for six months.
H. Stephens came before the Council to invite participation in the dedica-
tion at the Herman Fleishman Playground to be held June 29, at 7:30
P.M. and explained that the Redwood City Volunteer Veteran Firemen
Association would provide the necessary lighting installation.
David Bohannon, property owner along Bayshore Highway, addressed the
' Council concerning the proposed annexation of Friendly Acres and
indicated that he considered it a "premature move." Harry Friend
also protested the annexation and especially the fact that he had
not been able to file at a previous meeting the number of protests
to which he was entitled, and at this meeting did file protests am-
ounting to approximately 300. R. A. Oles, a builder in the tract,
also filed 15 protests and addressed the Council concerning the
difficulty of his continuing construction were the district annexed
to Redwood'City. Other discussion followed, but neverthesless it
was finally decided, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by
Councilman Hohn, to adopt Ordinance No. 426 calling a special elec-
tion to decide the annexation of the so-called "Friendly Acres"
district.
James Hagan, for the Parks and Recreation Commission, reported on the com-
mittees selection tion of a site for the community recreational center.
