<br />upon roll_ call the following were present: Councilmen H, F. Anderson,
<br />E. A. Fle.teher, tfm. Hohn:, R. Y. Jones-, P. A. McCarthy,. G. W. McN'ula'y,
<br />Mayor -L. C Chri;ste.nsen, and, CityClerk' B. E,r Myers.
<br />The minutes of the 'meeting .of July 17 and Special Meeting of July 31.
<br />were. approved on motion of Councilman Anderson,,, seconded by Council-
<br />man.-Fletche r.'
<br />Roy Cloud, represent 'ing Redwood Parlor, Native Sons of the Goiden''West,,
<br />in an, appropriate talk pre`s.ented to the City of RediTood City, and
<br />to the Counai•l„in' par ticular, two flags., one the Stars. and Stripes,
<br />and the Other 'the 'Be,ar.;F1ag of California,.. Mayor Christensen in
<br />a few ,well chosen orords',accepted the ':flags on behalf of the City..
<br />Wayne Millington, representing the�Parks and Recreation Commission,
<br />appeared before the Council to urge the acquisition of amsjo;r
<br />recreational center, and reported that' the .Recreation Commission,,
<br />after giving 'dueconsideration to ;all available sates., reeo.m-
<br />mended that 20, acres of the O'Dea ranch,, east of Chestnut Street,
<br />be purchased for $,500 an acre. He explained that local capital
<br />would. take over'th'is property and :allow the city to, buy it at
<br />_ the rate of two acres za: year, ,paying a nominal interest- or rental
<br />charge.. He :also' ,emphasized the, statement that :the city would not.
<br />be called upon for other e,ss.ential.payments in connection with
<br />this, project. Councilman..Fletcher, seconded by Councilman
<br />McCarthy,, proposed. that the city engage to purchase this property,
<br />according' to the outline set: forth 'by Mr. Millington, for 'the
<br />purpose of'the recreational department with instructions to. the.
<br />city attorney -to draw un the necessary agreement. Motion 'carried.
<br />At this time therewas a discussion in regard to the keeping of pigeons,,,
<br />more particuiarly Horning Pigeons,in the first :r-,esidential section
<br />of Redwood:C ,ty. Max Lichtenstein of 180 Hudson Street in a.letter
<br />protested having such pigeons in the district. He was _supported
<br />^in his protest by a petition submit
<br />by Alhert H. Morgan of 31�
<br />Grand Street,, which petition contained the names of about. 50
<br />property owners who did not -want pigeons or chickens, cows, pigs,
<br />or„goats In a. first class residential section. Following the
<br />presentation of the protest, .Albert .Bullivant opened up for the
<br />defense;. In,addition'to commendatory t�rords from Robert Littler
<br />who .1iv.ed near a pigeon loft in t•7elle.s,lay Park, Mr_. Bullivan.t
