Lambert appeared before the Council in connection with the success <br />of the locally sponsored Bel Canto Chorus and explained what had <br />been done and what the members would like to do; especially, that <br />it was desired to present the Messiah about December 15 in Redwood <br />City,'to which performance the entire County would be invited as <br />guests of Redwood City. Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Council- <br />man Anderson, moved that the Council go on record as commending the <br />Bel Canto -organization for its industry and success in the contest <br />at Treasure Island. Carried. After some discussion, on motion of <br />Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Jones, it was decided ' <br />to appropriate for the use of the Bel Canto Chorus not more than <br />$350 toward the expense of the production of the Messiah in Dec- <br />ember as qutlined by Mr. Lambert. <br />The City Manager submitted "Public Notice" from the War Department, <br />United States Engineer Office, San Francisco, to the effect that <br />application had been made by San Mateo County for approval of plans <br />to construct timber pile trestles across Smith Slough and Corkscrew <br />Slough adjacent to Redwood Creek, and that interested persons were <br />asked to express their views in writing. The City Manager in a. <br />letter to the Port Commission, recommended that no objection be made <br />but that rather the plan be supported. The City Manager also pre- <br />sented the matter to the Council for its consideration. On motion <br />of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the Council <br />agreed with the recommendation of the City Manager and instructed <br />that a letter in triplicate be sent to the War Department approving <br />the project and designating the City Manager as the representative <br />Of the city in any public hearing. <br />The departmental reports were ordered filed. <br />The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, <br />seconded by Councilman Anderson. <br />Adjournment. <br />BEM: HAS <br />City Clerk ' <br />fl <br />
