U <br />0 <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />SEPTEMBER 19, 1939 <br />8:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call the following councilmen were present: E. A. Fletcher, Ift. Hohn, <br />R. N. Jones, G. W. McNulty, Mayor L. C. Christensen, and City Clerk B. E. <br />Myers; absent, Councilmen H. F. Anderson and P. A. McCarthy. <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Jones, the following <br />affidavits were ordered filed: (1) Publication by the San Carlos Enquirer <br />of notice of special election; (2) B. J. Smith, posting ordinance calling <br />special election and notice of special election; (3) City Clerk, notifica- <br />tion of election officers. Following this, the Council duly and regular- <br />ly canvassed the returns of the special election and found that 47 voters <br />voted for the proposal, the annexation of district known as Friendly <br />Acres, and that 33 voted against the proposal. Upon this finding, on <br />motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the pro- <br />posal was declared carried. <br />Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposed introduction of <br />ordinance approving the annexation of the Friendly Acres district to the <br />City of Redwood City. Carried. <br />The City Manager submitted letter from the Chamber of Commerce in which its <br />Board of Directors recommended an expenditure from the Publicity Fund of <br />$100 in support of the work of the California Mission Trails Association. <br />On motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the Council <br />concurred in the recommendation of the Chamber of Commerce and authorized <br />the $100 expenditure. <br />In a letter to the Council, the Chamber of Commerce by its president, recom- <br />mended that the city operate a municipal bus line. No action,was taken <br />and consideration postponed until a committee representing the Council <br />could make its report. <br />In a letter to the Council, L. F. Bosshardt, who had been training Junior <br />Mariners at the Yacht Harbor, indicated that the work had been discon- <br />tinued and that he would no longer need the financial contributions <br />from the city. He expressed his appreciation of the help given him. <br />In a letter to the Council, Duncan Reynard, secretary of the Redwood City <br />Exposition Model Home Committee, recommended that Mrs. Eichelberger <br />be compensated for whatever was due her as hostess in the Model Home. <br />No action was taken. <br />
