Fontana requesting permit to 'locate his fertilizer' <br />business on lot.9, Friend Industrial.Tract made necessary because of State' <br />Hig4way Commission purchasing a portion of their present property for right-of- <br />way.- Mr. L.'Werder also appeared In behalf of Mr. Fontanap stating the property p ti <br />• 9' <br />would.be fenced and landscaped. On motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by <br />Councilman Fletcher, permit was granted. <br />Mr. Ferris Miles appeared before the Council requesting permit to erect a temporary <br />,building to house his paint and body department at Heller and Cassia Streets <br />immediately adjacent to his present building, -explaining that under the present. <br />conditions, it would be impossible,to constructa fireproof building to con- <br />form fully_to building and zone ordinance.. .The, building would be approximately � <br />-of 1000 to 1200 square feet and would be for tha duration and six months there- ' k <br />after, after whibh�,<building would be replaced by a modern fireproof building. i ;a <br />Councilman Armstrong questionecl whether or not our ordinance would allow <br />construction of other than reinforced concrete, such as tile and brick con- <br />struotion. Mr. Miles advised that such material would be impossible to secure <br />at the present time. After considerable discussion, Councilman Anderson moved, <br />seconded by Councilman McNulty, that permit be. granted providing Mr. Miles <br />would sign an agreement binding his heirs -or successors to remove the building <br />six months after duration. Motion carried, Couenilman Armstrong voting no. <br />Chief Petty and Warrant Officers, K.A. Greerwood and Robert L. White of the U. S. <br />Navy, appeared to request the city to donate, lease or sell musical instruments <br />to them for use by the Seabees in the Sauth Pacific. These gentlemen were <br />referred to the City Council by Mr. Ray Spangler of the Tribune. City Attorney <br />was of the opinion this could not be done without following the requirements of <br />the Charter to the letter, therefore no action was taken. The gentlemen will <br />call back to confer with City Manager Mead at the end of the week and in the- <br />: meanwhile some plan would ba worked out if possible.. <br />Matter of abatement of the Olive Keomple property, 429 Howland Avenue, was next <br />order of business. Attorney Wayne.Miliington appeared to request that Mrs. <br />Keomple be allowed to enter the premises at once to commence cleaning up the <br />property, stating further that he did not appear in connection with the abate- <br />ment proceedings.
