Manager Mead refer the classification to the Board, of Review and the matter be, <br />placed on the agenda for the next meeting. Mayor Granger asked if an age (� <br />. limit had been considered, to which City Manager Mead replied that he did not <br />f <br />think it necessary. Councilman Fletcher thought there should be -an age limit <br />and suggested 35 years as the maximum. Councilman Britschgi believed there <br />should be no age limit as there was always the possibility of a competent �. <br />person being excluded because of being a little over the limit. He also <br />believed that an older woman would probably be able to handle the position fir` <br />.better than a young girl. Councilman Fletcher brought up the fact that the ° <br />police and firemen are subject to an age limit to which Councilman McNulty . <br />said he believed there was a difference in having age limit for police and fire- <br />men and a woman welfare worker.. Councilman Armstrong suggested the Board of <br />Review be heard from in regard to the matter. Councilman Britschgi asked that <br />the City,Manager check into age of women <br />involved <br />in this <br />type of <br />work in <br />other <br />communities. Councilman Fletcher said he <br />did not <br />believe <br />it was <br />a matter <br />for <br />the Board of Review to decide. Mayor Granger said he thought the Board of <br />Review had very little to do and unless they were given something to do. the <br />Board should be abolished. City Manager Mead stated that there were very <br />definite things for them to do but that the occasion had not arisen which made <br />it necessary to call.upon them. <br />City Manager Mead reported on progress,of acquisition of recreational area.in the <br />Wooster, Whitton and Montgomery Subdivision. He stated that he was gwaitine <br />receipt of executed deed and escrow letter on portion of Lot 13, owned by Hollis <br />C. Clark, Washington, D. C. Negotiations have been entered,into with Blanche <br />M. and Peter Foppiano, San Francisco, owners of a portion of Lot 15. There <br />is a meeting to be held December 26, 1943, with them. City Manager Mead <br />asked City Attorney McCarthy to report on portion of Lot 15 owned by Frank V. <br />Goetz and wife, Redwood City. City Attorney McCarthy explained that he had <br />received an offer.which he had submitted to Mr, Mead who thought it was a fair <br />price but that Mr. Goetz is under a contract which affects the price of the <br />lot. Mr. Goetz had hoped to contest the party with whom he has the contract <br />but had been unable to do so and suggested that Mr. McCarthy make an effort <br />to contact him, which:he intended to do. City Manager Mead then reported on <br />the matter of portions of Lots 17 and 19 owned by Mrs. Floyd Baird, Redwood <br />City. He had had a discussion with Mr. Elmer Morrish, who was representing <br />Mrs: Baird, but no final price had yet been decided upon. He.stated he was 1111 <br />hopeful of having it by the next meeting of the Council. The last piece of _ <br />property is Lot 21, owned by Homer L. Adler and wife, Los Angeles. A letter <br />had been sent Mr. Adler but no reply has been received. A registered letter <br />is to be sent to him.
