i <br />Building Inspector Duncan advised the Council that he had received a telephone <br />Beall from a Mrs. Walsh stating that they were going to fix up the property. <br />City Attorney McCarthy explained- that he mailed notice to E. Lombardino <br />Estate, c/o Mrs. Blanche Bates, R. F. D., Menlo Park. <br />Councilman Britschgi asked what bxpense had been incurred'except postage to <br />which City Attorney McCarthy answered there had been no other expense incurred. <br />Councilman Britsdhgi suggested the Council go on with proceedings and allow <br />time to decide whether it is a nuisance. ratty Attorney McCarthy explained <br />that thirty days had to elapse before the building could be abated. City Attor-- <br />ney.administered_the oath to Fire Chief Ryan who testified as follows: <br />Q. Have you examined the Lombardino premises on Winslow Street recently: <br />A. I have. <br />Q..How recently? <br />A. About one month ago? <br />Q. What is condition with respect to fire hazard? <br />A. Very bad <br />Q. Is Building Inhabited:? <br />A. Uninhabited. All windows and doors out. Must be inhabited at night because <br />of cigarette butts around. <br />City Attorney McCarthy explained that the front door stands open -and that the <br />building is easily accessible because it is so close to the railroad tracks. <br />City Attorney McCarthy asked Building Inspector; -Duncan if he could add anything <br />to•'Mr. � yan'ks 'remarks. Mr. 'Duncan stated that the building has no foundation <br />and.is falling apart. <br />Councilman Armstrong Moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that resolution be <br />adopted declaring this property to be a nuisance. Motion passed on call of <br />�- roll, Councilmen Anderson and Hilton absent. <br />City Clerk Ralph S. Dodge read application for permit to,operate taxi service by Chas. <br />F. Tammany at 119 Pennsylvania Avenue. Mr. Tammany addressed Council stating <br />that he had been in business for twenty-five years in Redwood City. <br />Councilman Armstrong asked where property was located and was informed it was <br />the property next to the Ross Garage. <br />` City Attorney McCarthy asked Mr. Tammany if he had a chauffeur's license. Mr. <br />Tammany replied he had not. Mr. McCarthy explained that a chauffeur's license <br />was required as a condition prededent to obtaining a license to operate a taxi. <br />Councilman Armstrong asked if any insurance were necessary to which City Attor_ _ <br />ney McCarthy replied the the applicant must present to the City Clerk a policy <br />of insurance in the amount of $10/20,000 covering public liability and also a . <br />policy oY insurance in the amount of $1000 covering property damage. Mr. <br />: <br />Tammany explained that he had a policy in the amount of $10/20,000 coveringin <br />_public liability. Councilman Fletcher said he thought amount of property <br />damage insurance should be raite to at least 5000. Councilman Fletcher moved <br />that the matter be postponed until Mr. Tammany had a chauffeur's license. <br />i <br />Councilman Armstrong asked if there were any other conditions in regard to gra.nt4,m;, <br />Ing the permit. He believed the Police Department should give a,report as to <br />the character of the applicant. Councilman Britschgi stated that a report shou'-d <br />be had on other taxicab drivers on intelligence in driving and personal intelli- <br />gence but did not believe this man should be singled out for such tt report. <br />ef <br />
