Communication received from the Women of the Moose requesting permission to conduct <br />dances at the Moose Lodge on Arguello Street on Friday nights and requesting <br />permit for dance to be held Friday night,. February 18. Councilman Fletcher <br />moved, seconded by Councilman I-AaNulty, that permit be granted. Under the questior., <br />Councilman Hilton asked if the building were a residence or a hall. Mayor <br />r. <br />�. Granger replied that the building was a residence turned into a hall., Councilman <br />Hilton asked if ;there was a fire hazard. Councilman Fletcher said he did nod <br />believe so as there was both a front and back entrance. Motion granting permit <br />passed unanimously.. <br />Application for permission to conduct a rummage sale on March 15 to 19, at 83$ or 840 <br />Main Street, was received from St. Peters Episcopal Church., Councilman Britschgi,. <br />seconded by Councilman McNulty, moved that permit be granted. Motion passed <br />iinahimously. <br />City Clerk Dodge advised the Council that Mrs. R. Fisher was contemplating the pur•-. <br />chase of a lot on Valota Road subject to her being allowed to raise chickens <br />commercially. Councilman Armstrong asked about the zoning restrictions,.to which <br />City Attorney McCarthy replied thatrit was a second residential zone and'that <br />chicken raising was a characteristic activity of that district. Councilman <br />Armstrong moved that the City Clerk be instructed to advise Mrs. Fisher that the <br />permit would be granted if the property is not in a district subject to zoning <br />restrictions and would be denied if district is subject to zoning restrictions. <br />Motion seconded by Councilman Fletcher. Motion passed unanimously. <br />City Clerk.Dodge read communication from Andrew Spinas, District Superintendent of <br />the Redwood City Elementary School District, asking that his resignation as a <br />member of the Traffic Safety Committee be accepted and suggesting that Mr. Ben <br />Leese, principal of the Central School, be appointed as his successor. Councilmal <br />Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, that the resignation of,Mr. <br />Spinas be accepted and the City Clerk be instructed to advise Mr. Spinas that his <br />resignation was accepted with regret and to thank him for the service he had <br />rendered to the city in the past. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Councilman Armstrong submitted for the consideration of the Council the name of <br />Mr. Leese as a successor to Mr. Spinas to fill hIs unexpired term on the Traffic <br />Study Committee, seconded by Councilman Fletcher. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman Armstrong, that the City Clerk <br />be instructed to advise Mr. Leese of his, appointment. <br />City Clerk Dodge read communication from City Manager R. W. Plead in which he reported <br />at the request of the War Council that city employees responded in case of an <br />emergency. Communication was ordered filed. <br />City Clerk Dodge read communication from the Redwood City Citizens' Traffic Survey <br />OAR <br />Committee in regard to. parking in live parking lane and pedestrian large, within <br />fifteen feet on the near side of the pedestrian lane and that the fifteen foot <br />strip be so marked,,thereby solving difficulty drivers have had in trying to pass <br />between a parked car and the pedestrian sign. Councilman Fletcher stated he be- <br />lieved it would be well to mark these lanes and observe for a while before pass- <br />ing.an ordinance. Councilman Armstrong stated he was in favor of accepting <br />
