City Clerk Dodge read resolution adjourning the meeting out of respect to the memory of Lieutenant Joseph Russell Fox who lost his life while in the service of his country and that his family ,be notified of the Council's action. Councilman Granger moved adoption of these two resolutione, seconded by Councilman Armstrongs On roll call, motion passed unanimously. "Alr R. S. Dodge, City Clerk MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL MAY 15, 1944 9: 00 P. M. On roll call the following were present: Councilmen H. F. Anderson, 0, C. Armstrong, Carl A. Britschgi, E.,A, Fletcher,'Floyd D. Granger, G. W. McNulty, Mayor W. W. Hilton and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present were: C$ty Manager Robert W. Mead, City Attorney Paul A. McCarthy, Building Inspector L. M. Duncan, Police Chief C. L. Collins, Fire Chief M. E. Ryan, City Collector N. L. Miramontes, Street Superintendent H.. L. Winter and Health Inspector Emil Stein. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as mailed on motion of Councilman Armstrong, seconded by Councilman McNulty. Motion passed unanimously. Application.for dance permit was received from Court Madrone No. 159, F. of A. for Saturdays, May 20th and 27th. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson, permit was granted. Application for dance permit was received from Howard Frederic for dances to be held on Wednesdays, May 17th, 24th and 318t, until 12:00 P. M., the fee for the first two .dances having been paid. Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that upon proper payment of fee, permit be granted. Motion passed unanimously. Communication was received from Joe Farr, United Veterans' Council, inviting the members of the Council to sit on the platform of the Sequoia Theatre during the Memorial Day exercises on May 30th, Mayor Hilton expressed the hope that as many of the councilmen as possible be present. Coomunication was received from Ralph D. Howe, M. D., in which he stated he wished to withdraw his application for a permit to operate a maternity hospital at 3004 Broadway in view of the opposition aroused by the nearby.sesi.dents and stated he did not wish to incur any ill will. Councilman Armstrong moved that the letter be sent to the Planning Commission in view of the fact that the matter had been referred to them, seconded by Councilman Granger. Under the question, City Manager Mead asked if it would be agreeable to notify the Planning Commission before their next meeting so that notices would not be sent out4in regard to the matter.
