Councilman Fletcher moved, seconded by Councilman Armstrong, that the recommendation of the real estate committee be accepted. Motion passed unanimously. Application to conduct a restaurant was received from Robert.Gray, fee having been paid. City Clerk Dodge informed the council that the restaurant was known as the Redwood Diner and City Manager Mead -presented an agreement signed by him and by Mr. Gray agreeing that this permit was of a temporary nature. City Clerk Dodge read the agreement. Councilman Fletcher moved, seconded by Councilman Anderson, that the permit be granted. Motion passed unanimously. Councilman Armstrong asked if the agreement were to be recorded to which OltSr Attorney McCarthy re- plied that it was to be. John Battaglia, 1762 Valota Road, appeared before the council requesting a permit to raise chickens dommerically. Health Inspector Stein(,reported that he had in- spected the premises which contained three acres. 'He stated the premises were very clean and that that area was zoned for commercial chicken raising. City Attorney McCarthy advised the council that there were no restrictions against -raising chickens in that area. Councilman Fletcher moved, seconded by Council- man Britschgi, that the permit be granted. Motion passed,unanimously. City Attorney McCarthy asked that the report on an ordinance prohibiting the cutting uprof houses into one and two room apartments be continued on the agenda as he was unable to make a report at this time. Councilman Anderson moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the matter be placed on the agenda for the second meeting in July. Motion passed unanimously. In the matter of the position of treasurer and auditor being held by one person, Councilman Armstrong stated that he had given the matter careful consideration and could find no justification for continuing the policy of the same person being the custodian of the dash and also responsible for the records of the cash. Be stated there was no reflection on anyone past or present who held the two positions but believed the solution lay.in the appointment of a treasurer who would be a part time city employee, as the position would not justify the appointment of a full time employee. He moved that the city council appoint a treasurer, that the position be created as a part time position and that the salary be fixed at not more than seventy five dollars per month and offered the name of Henry Nissen, an employee of the American Trust Company in Redwood City, to fill this position, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, Under the question, Councilman Granger stated he would like to give more consideration to the person to be appointed to the position and that he would like,to suggest the name of Wesley Locker, an employee of the First National Bank in Redwood City, Council- man Anderson stated that he was not ready to vote on the person to fill the posi- tion and suggested that the council vote on the plan as submitted by Councilman Armstrong and at the next meeting vote on the appointment to the position.
