MINUTES OF ADJOUNRED REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />AUGUST 28, 1944 <br />8:15 P.M, <br />Upon roll call the following were present: Councilmen H. F. Anderson, C. C. Armstrong„ <br />E. A. Fletcher, F. D. Granger, G. W. McNulty, Mayor W. W. Hilton and City <br />Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present were: City -Manager R. W. Mead, Fire Chief M. E. <br />Ryan, Police .Chief C. L. Collins, Building Inspector L. Ni. Duncan. -Absent: <br />Councilman C. A. Britschgi. <br />Clerk read communication requesting a permit to raise flowers and vegetables in <br />tract of land known as part of Boicelli Ranch, from V. F. Bachar, signed by. <br />F. A. DePatta, Agent. Councilman Fletcher moved permit be granted. After <br />considerable discussion, -motion was withdrawn inasmuch as there was no second. <br />Mr. DePatta explained to the Council that his clients desired to raise flowers <br />and vegetables commercially and the sale of the property hinged upon the permit <br />.to operate. Councilman Armstrong stated that inasmuch as the property was in <br />the second residential zone, he believed property owners in the vicinity should <br />be notified and given an opportunity to voice their objections if any. Council— <br />man McNulty stated he would object if fish or bone meal fertilizer were used <br />causing an unpleasant odor. Councilman Armstrong stated that inasmuch as Mr. <br />DePatta urged that a decision be reached at once, he would be forced to vote <br />to deny permit, and so moved. On the statement of Mr. DePatta that he would if <br />necessary hold up his deal until the meeting of Sept. 5th, Councilman Armstrong <br />withdrew his motion, and moved that adjoining property owners be notified that <br />the application would be considered at the next meeting, Sept. 5th, to give <br />anyone objecting an opportunity to voice their objections, if any. Motion was <br />seconded by Councilman McNulty and carried unanimously. <br />Clerk read notices from State Board regarding of transfer of liquor licenses from <br />John B. Canepa to Harvey C. O'Dell. There being no -objections, notices ordered <br />filed. Councilman Granger raised.question about restaurants changing hands and <br />new proprietors failing to apply for licenses. City Manager Mead was requested <br />to investigate this matter and report back. <br />Application for restaurant license received from Lars 0. Anderson to operate <br />restaurant at the Cal Bunyard property on Woodside Road. Councilman Granger <br />moved, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that this application be held over and <br />placed on agenda for next meeting. <br />Application for restaurant license read from George Anderson, to operate restaurant <br />at .Five Points Cafe. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman <br />Anderson, permit was granted subject to approval of Health Department. • t <br />Permit was granted Young Ladies Institute of Redwood City to operate Rummage Sale <br />on Main Street on September 22nd, on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by <br />Councilman Fletcher. <br />American Legion Auxiliary #105 was given permission to hold Rummage sale on Main <br />Street on October 5th and 7th on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by <br />Councilman Armstrong. <br />n <br />0 <br />F�L <br />E] <br />i <br />i <br />0 <br />
