MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL SEPTEMBER 52 1944 5:00 P. M. On roll call the following were present: Councilmen Harold F. Anderson, C. C. . Armstrong, E. A. Fletcher, Floyd D. Granger, George W. McNulty, Mayor W. W. Hilton and City Clerk Ralph S. Dodge. Also present were: City Manager Robert W, Mead, City Attorney Paul A. McCarthy, Building Inspector L. M. Duncan, Police Chief C. L. Collins, Fire Chief 14. E. Ryan, and Health Inspector Emil Stein. Absent:e Councilman Carl Britschgi. Councilman Armstrong stated there was a correction to be made in the minutes of August 28th. He said the minutes should read, "Minutes of Adjourned Regular Meeting" instead of "Minutes of Special Meeting". He moved that the minutes of the meetings of August 21st and August 26th be approved with the minutes of August 29th being corrected as above, seconded by Councilman Fletcher. Motion passed unanimously. Application for dance permit was received from Yvonne Schlichtmann for dances to be held Wednesdays, September 6th and 13th until 12:00 midnight. Fee had been paid, Councilman Armstrong moved permit be granted subject to the usual conditions, K seconded by Councilman. Anderson. Motion passed unanimously. Application for dance permit was received froii Court Madrone No. 1581 F. of A. for benefit dances to be held Saturdays, September 9th and 16th until 1:00 A. M. Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Anderson moved that permit be granted. Motion passed unanimously. Request for permit 'to conduct a rummage sale in the Gardiner Building September 30th, by the Junior A. W. V. S., the proceeds from which will go to the men overseas, was received from Mrs. M. E. Bigler. Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Council- man Armstrong, moved permit be granted. Motion passed unanimously. Request for permit to conduct a rummage sale from September 9th to 16th on Main Street or Broadway was received from the Rummageers of St. Peters Episcopal Church, Ellen E. Taylor, secretary. Councilman McNulty moved, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that permit be granted. Motion passed unanimously. Communication was read from Rex L. Idicholson, Managing Director, Builders of the West, was read urging support of S. 2105, Federal Aid Highway Bill by contacting. State representatives in Washington. Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the communication be filed. Under the question, Councilman Fletcher was of the opinion that the State representatives in Washington should be notified of the city's opinion regarding this bill. Councilman Armstrong did not believe the city should enter into the matter at all, saying he did -not believe it behooved the city to run down national legislation and did not believe the city should put any pressure on the representatives in Washington. Councilman Fletcher stated he did not believe it was a matter of pressure being applied but this bill affected the eleven Western States and he believed the letter should be acknowledged. Councilman Granger made the suggestion that the matter be called to the attention of the representatives in Washington and if, in their opinion, it was an advantageous Ej ILI,
