Alla. Van Buren asked Councilman Armstrong if he would object to granting him a used car lot license if he were a dealer, to Which Councilman Armstrong replied that he would. Councilman.Britschgi spoke in defense of Mr. Van Bullen, stating that he was conducting the lot in a fine manner and that he was going to vote to con- tinue the lot. Councilman Fletcher expressed the same opinion. Councilman Anderson could see no objection to car dealers on El Camino Real if there were no gaudy signs and the lot was kept properly. He said he did ob- ject to a used car license being given to a man without a new car agency but would vote for the permit on the condition that it be a temporary permit, no signs to be displayed and that if Mr. Van Buren did not get a new car agency the used car license would be revoked. Councilman Granger stated that the matter of used car lots on E1 Camino Real was now before the Planning Commission for study and asked Mr. Van Buren if he would be willing to submit his case to the Planning Commission and abide by their decision. Mr. Van Buren stated he would-be glad to work with the Plan- ning Commission in regard to plans for the lot and would be glad to abide by their suggestions. Councilman Armstrong stated, he was opposed to the location of the lot, stating it eras not a proper thing to have on the front door of the town and in- asmuch as this matter had been referred to the Planning Commission believed it would be highly impropert to go ahead and grant a permit at this time When there is a possibility that it might override the recommendation of the Planning Com- mission. Councilman Granger stated he would 'vote against the granting of the permit because the matter of used car lots on El Camino Real has been referred to the Planning Commission and he didn't -want to overrule them. Councilman Anderson stated he would rather see the motion withdrawn and a motion made to refer the matter to the Planning Commission. Councilman Granger withdrew his second, but Councilman Armstrong refused to withdraw his motion, stating he did not believe in used car lots on E1 Camino Real, temporary or any way. Councilman Britschgi made a motion that the permit be granted, expiring on June 30, 1945, seconded by Councilman Fletcher,, Under the question, Councilman McNulty stated he believed it should be referred to the Planning Commission. Councilman Britschgi asked to have the minutes of the last meeting read in regard to referring this question to the Plaanin( Commission. City Clerk Dodge read, excerpts from the minutes tf'nich stated that it was moved that the matter of used car lots on E1 Camino Real be referred to the Planning Commission for their recom- mendation back to the Council as to what, if aaiything, can be done to eliminate used car lots on El Camino Real. Councilman Britsohgi was of the opinion that the matter before the Planning Commission was to eliminate used car lots and not sug- gestions as to viher,e they should be located.
