City Manager Mead said that most of the records were available without going to much additional expense. Motion was seconded by Councilman Armstrong, and passed unanimously. The matter of a monthly audit of books and accounts of the city by C. G. Uhlenberg was brought up. Councilman GranlSer said this matter was discussed at the last meeting of the Council and he moved that the city enter into a contract with the firm of C. G. Uhlenberg for a sum not.to exceed $1500 per year for a monthly, audit and that the finance committee meet with Mr. Uhlenberg to cork out a plan. He said this plan would include a monthly report as well as an annual -report and the auditor would be available for any advice the city might request of him. in }� his opinion, it was a better plan than hiring a city treasurer. The, motion was seconded by Councilman Anderson. Under the question, Councilman McNulty asked if the city would have a bona. fide auditor. Councilman Granger said he believed Mr. Dodge would continue in the name of auditor and that Air. -Uhlenberg would h,--,v-- no aveno connection with the City of Redwood City. Councilman McNulty was of. the opin- ion that this would be in violation of the Charter and that the same maa would still be city clerk, treasurer and auditor. Councilman Armstrong said it could be an addition to the service that the city is now getting, from the outside auditor and that a continuous audit during the year would be of much more value to the city than anamual audit. It was the consensus of the Council th,:t by adopting this plan the problem of having, the same man for city clerk, treasurer, and auditor would still not be solved. Councilman Britschgi moved that this matter be laid over to a 7:00 o'clock meeting before the next regular meeting„ seconded by Councilman Anderson. There was already.a motion before the Council. Councilman Granger withdrew his motion and Councilman Anderson withdrew his second. Councilman Britschgi restated his motion, seconded by Councilman Ander- son. Motion passed uanimously. City Manager Mead reported he had a letter from 1,1r. Jordan of the Southern Ps.cific Company in regard to protection at the Chestnut Street and Bayshore Hincwey crossing in which he advised that he ;-could have the trainmaster look into the matter. He reported he had heard nothing further. Councilman Granger moved this matter be referred to the State Highway Commission and the Railroad Com- mission to see what help could be had in regard to protection at this crossing, seconded by Councilman McNulty. Motion passed unanimously. City Attorney McCarthy distributed copies of the proposed ordinance prohibiting carni - vale and, circuses from performing on Sundays. Councilman Armstrong, moved that this matter be placed on the agenda for the next meeting, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Motion passed unanimously. City Attorney McCarthy ..dvised the Council that he had done considerable work in regard to proposed business license to be assessed Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. and that he had been unable to reach a decision.
