City Manager Mead advised the Council that the Oxains were all cleaned last year and that it was the intention to clean them ag,^in this year. He stated there had been no complaints during; the last rainy season. Mr. Roy V. Johnson, one of the si,,"'ners of the petition, addressed the Council stating that he had resided on Lexington Avenue for only five months but that he had been advised of the condition'by the other property o4vazers. He said bulkheads hVd been built by adjoining property owners vthich causes the other property to be flooded. City Manager Bead said he woulci. look after this channel and all the other channels in the city soon. :Mr. James C'. Ferrell appeared before the Council in regard to establishing' an a�rport in Redwood City. He was of the opinion that after the war many of the returning servicemen would be interested in flying and he believed Redwoo City was the location on the Peninsula Where an airport should be located, and believed the property on w'nich the city now has an option would be the best place to start such a field. He believed the city should meet with other cities on the Penin- sula to see if an airport district could b e formed. Councilman Granger said the Board of Supervisors had consulted with PlIr. Hess of the C. A. A. in regaPd to this matter and he believed it should be re- ferred to them with the thought in mind to creat an airport district and also bring out the thought that the city is not so much interested in an airport district as in a landing field to accommodate lig'_zter planes. Mayor Hilton asked Mr. Butler, I1anager of the Chamber of Com 'ercge if the Chamber of Commerce had given any thought to an airport. Mr. Butler advised the Council that he and Mr. Mead had discussed the matter with Mr. Hess of the C.A.A. and had determined that it was very expensive for a city of this size to under- take. He said that he was not sure the Federr.l Government would approve the land in o_uestion for an airport. Mayor Hilton vrds of the opinion that a committee should be appointed to make a study of this matter to see if it could be a joint community affrir. City Manager Mead advised the Council that the County Planning, Commisvion is at present making a study of this situation. Councilman Granger moved that a resolution be drafted encouraging the County Planning, Commission to give this matter further study and also encouraging them in forming an air landing; field in this district, seconded by Corancilma,n McNulty. Motion passed unanimously. Mrs. GlFCS,s E. Wilson appeared before the Council in reilere to the "Wings and Anchor Club°, the purpose of which is to provide a 7 .ce oP loG�in and entertainment for my woman in the armecl services. Mrs. Wilson asked the Council to appoint Mr. Hilton, as I ryor, and Mr. Mead, as' City IdanaGer, to their com,aittee in an advisory capacity. She presented a copy of the charter under chich this commit- tee is �t.cting which was granted by the State of California. in answer to Councilman Armstrong's question as to the source of funds for this work, Mrs. Wislon replied that the fin^ncing was cone by contributions.
