13 Cl r 0 I MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL NOVEMBER 20, 1944 8:00 'P. M. .On roll call the following were present: Councilmen Harold F. Anderson, C. C. Arm- strong, Carl'A.'Britschgi, Evans A. Fletcher, Floyd D. Granger, George W. .McNulty, Mayor W. W. Hilton and City Clerk Ralph S. Dodge. Also present were: City'Manager Robert W: Mead, City Attorney Paul A. McCarthy, Building Inspector L. M. Duncan, Fire Chief M. E. Ryan, Police Chief C. L. Collins, City Collector N. L. Miramonte8, Street Superintendent H. L. Winter and Health Inspector Emil Stein. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved. as mailed on motion of Councilman Grange:,, seconded by Coundilman McNulty. Motibn passed unanimously. Application for dance permit was received from Yvonne Schlichtmann for dances to be held Wgdnesdays, November 22nd, -and 29th until 12:00 midnight, fee having been paid. � Councilman Armstrong moved permit be granted subject to usual conditions seconded by Councilman Anderson, motion passed. Application for dance permit was received from Court Madrone No. 158., F. of A. for benefit dances to be held Saturdays, November 25th and December 2nd until 1:00 A. 14. Councilman Anderson moved permit be granted .subject to usual conditions, seconded by Councilman McNulty. Motion passed unanimously. Communication was received from. San Mateo County A. F. of L. Political Education Com- mittee expressing appreciation for publicity given resolution opposing Proposition No. 12 on the general election ballot regardless of the fact that the resolution was not adopted by the Council. Communication was ordered, filed. Communication was received from. the Chamber of Commerce requesting extension of agree-' ment between the City of Redwood City and the Chamber of Commerce to and includin, the 30th day of June, 1945- City Manager Mead explained that the agreement covered advertising by the Chamber of Commerce and paid for by the City out of the adver- tising fund. He stated that the agreement was renewed yearly. Councilman Flet- cher moved that the City Manager be authorized to enter into an agreement similar to those entered upon in previous years, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Motion passed unanimously. City Clerk Dodge read communication received frojn Alice E. ;,'c'riest and Fred R.- Priest expressing appreciation for•Councills Action in adjourning previous meeting out out of respect to the memory of their son, the late Cpl. George F. Priest. Com- munication was ordered filed. A claim was presented by Attorneys Jos. R. Fitzpatrick and Edmund Scott in behalf of Rodney McDaniel, a IDindr# who was injured By falling from a certain piece of playground apparatus belonging to the City of Redwood City and situated at Hawes Park. The total amount of the claim was $8000. Councilman Britschgi moved that the claim be denied and that it be referred to the insurance company, seconded,, by Councilman Armstrong. Motion passed unanimously. Attorney Edmund Scott appeared before the Council in behalf of his client, Mr. W. A. Van Buren, who had made application to conduct a used car lot at 332 El Camino Real. The matter had been referred to the Planning Commission and Mr. Scott said
