2 (1V <br />0; <br />Rogers and Arguello <br />Duane and Hopkins <br />James and Grand <br />Also suggested that possibility of a stop sign to be placed at Whipple and King <br />Streets be investigated. <br />Communication received from Louise Stiles, Secretary of Parks and Recreation Commis - <br />4 - <br />sion in which they recommend the expenditure of $110.00 from the Special Recrea— <br />tion Fund for screening four windows at Lincoln School Auditorium to fit same <br />for basket -ball, also for the purchase of mat for passing athletic badge test. <br />On motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Hilton, expenditure was <br />authorized. <br />0 <br />Report received from C. G. Uhlenberg, C.P.A., on examination of books and accounts, <br />maintained by City Clerk and Treasurer as of the close of business of November <br />21, 1912. All securities owned by the City were checked and verified in the <br />presence.of Mayor Granger, former Treasurer C. W. Eltringham, and his successor. <br />R. S. Dodge. Receipt for same has been issued by the latter. On motion of <br />Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, report was ordered filed. <br />Claim for damages received from Mrs. J. J. Eshleman in the amount of.$1,000.00 for <br />6yW <br />damages allegedly sustained as the result of a fall at the corner of Perry <br />Street and Commercial Way. On motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by'Council- <br />man Fletcher, claim was ordered denied and referred to the Insurance Company. <br />On motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Hilton, treasurer was <br />ordered not to release the sum of $1,100.00 to contractor L. C. Smith until sat- <br />isfied by notification from his insurance company in writing that Liability In- <br />surance was in force. <br />Mr. Stanton Mullen and Mr. G. Gregory appeared before the Council to protest against <br />weekly dances held at -the Lincoln School Auditorium, presenting petition signed <br />by five citizens. Messrs. H. M. Scales, Rollo La Berge, K. L. Bowen and Mrs. J. <br />A. Buhler appeared in defense of the club holding the weekly dances, presenting <br />a list of twelve citizens certifying dances did.not in any way create a distur- <br />bance. City Attorney McCarthy gave the opinion that the dances were held con- <br />trary to the intent of the ordinance. Councilman Anderson moved, seconded by <br />Councilman Jenkins, to lay matter over until next meeting. Ayes votes: Council- <br />men Anderson, Jenkins and Granger. No votes: Councilmen Britschgi, Fletcher, <br />Hilton and McNulty. Motion failed to carry <br />Docey Doe Club, H. M. Scales, President, applied for permit to conduct private square <br />dances on Friday and Saturday nights for the following two weeks at Lincoln <br />School Auditorium. Submitted to City Attorney McCarthy who ruled against legali- <br />ty of permit. Motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Jenkins to <br />allow permit failed to carry. <br />H. E. Holmquist, owner of Holmquist Hardware Store, appeared before the Cofln.cil <br />relative to his rights to ingpct competitive bids after awards have been made. <br />On motion of Councilman Britschgi, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, matter was <br />held over for the next meeting.
