i <br />it <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 189 1943 <br />8:00 P.M. <br />�j Upon roll call the following were presents Councilmen H. F. Anderson, Co A. Britschgi, F. D. Granger. <br />E. A. Fletcher, W. W. Hilton, Louis Jenkins, Jr., G. W. McNulty, and City Clerk R. Be Dodge. <br />Also present were City Manager R. W. Mead, City Attorney Paul A. Me Carthy, City Collector <br />N. L. Miramontes, Chief of Police C. i,L. Collins, Building Inspector L. M. Duncan and <br />Acting City Engineer R. J. Clarke. <br />Minutes of meeting of January 4th were approved on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by <br />Councilman McNulty. <br />Communication from Senator Harry L. Parkman reference expenses involved in Civilian Defense <br />ordered filed. <br />Communication from Mr. Ronald Campbell accepting appointment as member of City Planning <br />Commission, also oath of office, ordered f iled on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded <br />by Councilman Anderson. <br />Application for permit to conduct benefit concert and food a ale for Russian War Relief at <br />Masonic Hall Saturday evening, January 23rd, received from Mrs. A. Be Chittenden, entertain. <br />ment chairman, was allowed on motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Fletcher. <br />City Manager Mead submitted list of salable city property together with sale prices re- <br />commended by Real Estate Committee consisting of Councilman McNulty, Councilman Hilton, <br />and City Manager Meade On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson <br />report of Real Estate Committee was accepted and a resolution authorizing sale of said <br />property was adopted. <br />City Attorney McCarthy submitted letter requesting authorization to reopen estate of one <br />Peri Bird Montna and for the <br />it appointment of an administrator to file suit to quiet <br />), title to six lots which have been sold to the City f or delinquent taxes. Claim has been <br />f prepared in amount of 090.00 covering %175.00 fee for administration and 015.00 to cover <br />I <br />estimated court expenses. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman <br />s McNulty, authorization was granted and claim approved for payment. <br />k I <br />Communication received from City Collector Miramontes requesting authorization to accept <br />payment of $250.00 from a Maude Me' Auliffa in payment of charges on Lot 6, Block 1, <br />i <br />Resub. of Lot 23, W. W. and M. Subdivision, instead of $418.64 actually due if total <br />1aa1} amount was paid in full. Real Estate Committea, Councilmen Hilton and McNulty and City <br />Manager Mead, recommended that the sum of x$`250.00 be accepted. On motion of Councilman <br />McNulty, seconded by Councilman Anderson, authorization was granted. <br />7f <br />Matter of circus poster ordinance discussed at length, Councilman Hilton moved, seconded <br />by Cquncilman Anderson, introduction of ordinance prepared by City Attorney McCarthy <br />p- with the provision that section 4 be rewritten to provide for deposit being retained by <br />City Collector until furnished with proof of compliance with terms of application in - <br />eluding removal of posters from any window or premises where displayed, instead of <br />by Chief of Police as originally written into ordinance. Motion carried. <br />s Mayor Granger commented on unsightly appearance of signs painted on sines of buildings, walls, <br />etc., there being no control over this practice under present ordinances. Councilmen <br />!k <br />Fletcher and Jenkins were of the opinion that merchants should be allowed to decide <br />{� ® regarding signs on their buildings. Councilman Anderson suggested that sach signs should <br />9*j be controlled by an amendment to the bill -board ordinance.
