0 <br />a survey and report their findings and recommendations at a later date. <br />City Manager Mead reported further on matter of *parking facilities at Southern Pacific Depot, ad- <br />vising that both the Standard Oil Company and the Southern Pacific Company were willing <br />to participate in improving the facilities. Work will be delayed until receipt of cert- <br />ificate of necessity from Washington which has been applied for. City Manager Mead advised <br />that he had been conferring with Southern Pacific Company officials regarding development <br />of additional area south of the station, and displayed a sketch which he had prepared to <br />illustrate the proposed additional area. Matter placed on agenda for next meeting. IMMI <br />Councilman Britschgi protested parking of ambulance at Southern Pacific Depot. City Manager <br />Mead was directed to contact Yellow Cab Co., to work out a solution on motion of Council- <br />man Jenkins, seconded by Councilman Hilton. <br />Planned Program of Public Works discussed generally. City Manager Mead recommended appointment <br />of a Priority Board to study the plan and suggest items to be considered first. Council- <br />man Anderson moved, seconded by Councilman Hilton, that such a board be appointed, and Mayor <br />Granger named Councilmen Anderson, Britschgi, and Jenkins to serve on that committee. <br />Communication from League of California Cities received relative to peninsula Division meeting <br />to be held at Benjamin Franklin Hotel, San Mateo, Thursday evening, January 21, at 6:30 P.M. <br />On roll call, nine councilmen.and officers signified their intention to attend. <br />City Manager Mead recommended disbandment of Municipal Band for the duration inasmuch as <br />attendance at rehearsals had fallen off to approximately 15 members after being supplemented <br />'by high school and grammer school boys. Be W. McCann appeared to speak in defense of the <br />organization. After considerable discussion, Council decided on motion of Councilman <br />Anderson, seconded by Councilman Jenkins, to continue to the end of present fiscal year. <br />Clerk was instructed to place on agenda at budget time. <br />Notification of 1102i Sale Beer" license application of James Harding, 2116 Broadway, received <br />from State Board of Equalization. Council had no objections to offer against permit. <br />Letter from Planning Commission including the approval of Planned Program of Public Works was read. <br />Planning Commission reoormended changing the name of Montgomery Street to Winklebleek Street in <br />honor of the late Sam H. Winklebleck, former publisher of the Redwood City Tribune. On <br />motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, Council approved the re- <br />commendation of the Planning Commission, <br />Mayor Granger suggested amendment to nuisance ordinance covering keeping of chickens in back <br />yards to eliminate possibility of location of coops and runs too close to property lines. <br />City Attorney McCarthy advised that Mr. J. H. Stubbs of Palo Alto was working on a model <br />ordinance which he hoped to offer for consideration to various cities and counties in the <br />near fixture. <br />Mayor Granger presented claims in amount 4159.17 and $41.20 covering installation of venetian <br />blinds in Library Building to conform with Dim-out regulations. On motion of Councilman <br />Britschgi, seconded by Councilman McNulty, claims were ordered paid and charged to Civilian De- <br />fense. <br />Mayor Granger discussed possibility of City employees working short shifts in war industry on days <br />off or after hours. Councilman Anderson stated firemen and policemen were on call 24 hours <br />in case of emergency. <br />Councilman Jenkins suggested <br />possibility of <br />lengthening shifts and in- <br />creasing rate of pay <br />correspondingly.
