<br />Eatat*Oommittee.., On,motion of Councilman Jenkins, seconded by Councilman
<br />Britschgi, acceptance .of offer was approved.

<br />Braconi., 1108 Redwood Avenue, to purchase Lots 32, 33. 34, Bla. 2, Aesubdivi_
<br />rsion of Lots 31, 32, Reese Subdivision, sale price $375:00, deposit,paid $37;50
<br />balance to be paid at the.rate of $12,50 per month at 6% !interest, full amount
<br />to be paid within two ,years. This communication was approved by'the Real Estate
<br />Committee. On motion of Councilman Anderson,, seconded by Councilman Jenkins,
<br />acceptance of this offer was approved.
<br />Mr. W. D. Ryan, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Hospital Committee,, appeared be.
<br />fore the Council and suggested that the Mayor appoint.a,committee to work with
<br />the Chamber of Commerce Committee on the matter of a hospital for 'Redwood City.
<br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded tjy.Councilman Jenkins, Mayor Granger
<br />was authorized to appoint such a committee with the provision that the Priorities
<br />Committee also work with the two committees on the hospital. matter.
<br />Mr. R. E. Steinebach of 661 Page Street, Friendly Acres, presented petition to the
<br />Council containing 165 names opposing`the annexation of -Friendly -Acres at thlse
<br />time. Petition states that the election held in September, 1939, was not legal
<br />due to the fact that:
<br />a. Property owners were not•,, permitted to protest in accordanee•with,the amount
<br />of property and number of parcels owned.
<br />b. The election was not representative of the present property owners and reeidente
<br />Of Friendly Acres.
<br />c. During present conditions the City of Redwood City would be unable to furnish
<br />any benefits in proportion to the extra burden of taxes which would-reeuEt
<br />f from this annexation, resulting in taxation without hope of benefit,
<br />Mayor Grang er read communication from City Manager Mead listing services pro
<br />wised Friendly Acres at the time of the election,;among which were fire protee-
<br />tion, police protection, street lighting, flood drainage and possibility of water
<br />at a reduc ed rate. s
<br />B. J. Smith.appeared before the Council in favor of annexation at the present
<br />time. Mr. Smith.stated there was still a large number of residents in the area

<br />In favor, of annexation, however, inasmuch as nothing could be done for the period
<br />of one year they abandoned the idea of annexation at this time. However, they
<br />hoped the matter will not be put' off indefinitely. Mr. Smith asked thepresent
<br />status of the matter of annexation. City Attorney McCarthy advised that the dis.
<br />trict was, still within the county, inasmuch as certification of Ordinance No. 429
<br />has not bein filed with the Secretary of State at Sacramento by 12 noon, March 1,
<br />1943• City Attorney advised that if the Council sees fit, it may file the oerti.
<br />ficate at any time and the district will become annexedby March 1, 1944. Mr.
<br />Steinbach requested the Council to notify them should they decide to file eerti.
<br />fication. He was assured this would be done. Mayor Granger stated that the CounHil
<br />would prefer that the present residents of the area decide their wishes in the
<br />Matt er.
