Councilman Jenkins stated that no valid election could be held until such <br />time.as Ordinance Na. 429 was repealed by the present council. <br />Councilman Anderson stated that the Priorities -Committee had met, read over and marked <br />the items of the Post -War Program in the order which they considered the most <br />important. However, the consensus of opinion of the Committeecwas that the <br />drainage problem was the outstanding item to,be given first consideration. Fur- <br />ther•report will be made at the next Council meeting. <br />Matter of granting franbbi se to the Redwood City Bus Line was put over until the next <br />meeting.` City Attorney will attend State Railroad Commission hearing on disoon- <br />tinuance of the Emerald Lake Bus Service on the morning of March 4, also hearing <br />on the matter of Railroad Commission franchise applied for by R. F. Martin on tha <br />afternoon of the same day. Councilman'Jenkins raised the question whether or <br />not the Bus line could operate without a franchise from Redwood City even though <br />he had a Railroad Commission franchise. City Attorney will report on that matter <br />at the next meeting. <br />The Planning Commission recommendations changing thename of several streets and re- <br />numbering houses was discussed'.. City Manager Mead reported difficulty of obtain., <br />Ing house numbers it the present time. On motion of -Councilman Anderson, see. <br />onded by.Councilman McNulty, recommendations of Planning Commission were approvee, <br />subject to the availability of house numbers. <br />councilman Britschgi reported on'condition of house numbers on Valot a Road, stating <br />w. <br />that the numbers were not in sequence and were in a badly mixed up condition. <br />City Manager Mead will survey and report back at the next meeting. <br />Ferris Miles, President of'Chamber of Commerce, appeared before the Council in con. <br />neetion with the matter of painting curbs, stenciling street names and block <br />numbers. City Manager Mead advised this work will be started within the next <br />ten days or two weeks. <br />applications for permits to operate second-hand car lots were received from the fol. <br />lowing: <br />Towne Motor Company 721 Highway <br />0. Oleson Main and Middlefield Road <br />Davies Auto Company 1101 El Camino Real <br />West Bay Motors, Inc., Corner Heller & Cassia Ste. <br />Cuddy Motor Co. 332 E1 Camino Real <br />Weltner'Motor Co. $31 El Camino Rest <br />Licenses have been paid by all of these applicants for the period ending March <br />31, 1943, Walther Motor Co. also applied for permit to operate used car lot at <br />2500 Broadway. On motion of Councilman Britschgi, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, <br />all permits were approved with the exception of the latter. <br />71ty Manager Mead reported that the Russian Relief Store, -operating by permission of <br />the Council without a license, was selling Russian tea and toys, all, other pro. <br />ducts being sold made by local people. Store also sells second-hand articles <br />and donations from the public. <br />Dommunication from Traffic Study Committee recommending the following: <br />1. Removal of .two stop sigm on James and. Myrtle, leaving the stop sign on Myrtle <br />Street at the intersection. Replacing the stop signs with slow signs. On <br />motion of Councilman Britschgi, seconded by Councilman Jenkins, this recom- <br />mendation was approved. <br />2. Remove stop signs on Rogers Street at Arguello, leaving stop sign at Arguello. <br />Replace stop signs with slow signs.
