MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />APRIL 52 1943 <br />5:00 P.M. <br />Upon roll call the following were present: Councilmen H. F. Anderson, C. A. Britschgi„ <br />E. A. Fletcher, W. W. Hilton, Louis Jenkins, Jr., G. W. McNulty, Mayor F. D. <br />Granger and City Clerk R. S. Dodge., Also present were City Manager R. W. Mead, <br />City Attorney Paul A. McCarthy, Police Chief C. L. Collins, Fire Chief M. E. Ryan, <br />City Collector N. L. Miramontes,.Street Superintendent H. L. Winter and County <br />Health Inspector E. Stein. <br />Minutes of regular meeting of March 15 were approved on motion of Councilman McNulty, <br />seconded by Councilman Fletcher. <br />Communication received from Dr. Charles Gans, Director, San Mateo County Health Depart- <br />ment relative to shortage of man power in the scavenger industry, requesting our <br />assistance in creating a program to correct the situation. Communication ordered <br />filed. <br />Application for permit to conduct a dance by the Order of Rainbow Girls, Saturday <br />evening, April 10, received and allowed on motion of Councilman Britschgi, <br />seconded by Councilman Anderson. <br />Communication received from Senator Parkman relative to Assembly Bill 1672 proposing <br />a civilian defense fund to assist counties and cities in civilian defense <br />activities. Communication ordered filed. <br />Application for permit to conduct bowling alley and restaurant at 2303 El Camino Real <br />received from Walter Williams. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by <br />Councilman McNulty, restaurant permit was allowed pending Health and Fire Depart- <br />ment inspections and providing all requirements are met. On motion of Councilman <br />Jenkins, seconded by Councilman Hilton, ,permit to conduct bowling alley was <br />allowed subject to same reguations. <br />Application for dance permit at same location was denied on motion of <br />Councilman Britschgi, seconded by Councilman McNulty, <br />Communication received from Mr. W. H. Augustus, County Clerk, attaching 5 copies of <br />agreement for sale of certain tax delinquent property within the corporate limits <br />of the City of Redwood City. On motion of Councilman Britschgi, resolution <br />ordering acceptance was offered, seconded by Councilman \ Hilton. <br />3ommunication received from members of Auxiliary Fire Group attaching copy of a letter <br />written to the Redwood City Civilian Defense Council by Mr. H. W. Dugdale, Group <br />�l <br />6, Auxiliary Firemen, requesting that this letter be read before the council. <br />After the reading of this letter, Mr. Dugdale appeared before the Council comment- <br />ing on Civilian Defense matters, stating ghat something would have to be done to <br />build up the auxiliary fire group which had suffered badly in loss of personnel, <br />due to labk.,.of co-op}eration by the Civilian Defense Council. Several members of <br />the auxiliary fire group appeared in turn adding comments to those of Mr. Dugdale, <br />stating that the auxiliary firemen had been given no equipment to work with such <br />as helmets, boots and rubber coats for their protection. Fire Chief Mark Ryan then <br />addressed the Council stating that the Civilian Defense Council formulated the <br />poi icies for Civilian Defense and that the head of departments carried out those <br />El <br />n <br />
