Ile' xplainsd <br />I <br />further that a survey had been conducted by block matrons during February to' <br />ascertain the number of working women and children involved. _ <br />Superintendent of Schools Andrew Spinas also addressed the Council stating <br />that an application had been made under the Lanham Act,for funds to establish' <br />nurseries for pre-school age children and facilitiep to take care of school age <br />children some time in, February ;but no response had been received to date..., .He , <br />stated further that at a recent meeting it was explained that applications,.fro6 <br />several cities had been favorably acted upon but no funds had been distributed a.s <br />yet. <br />Councilman Fletcher suggested that .a meeting'be held at as early a, date as ?: <br />possible.wto which be invited the .County Welfare perponnel, representatives of war+ <br />i <br />industries, interested mothers; and the members of the City Council or .anyone els` <br />interested to consider that could be done to alleviate the situation in;this J. <br />community. <br />Mr. H. M. Scales, Secretary�of the Sequoia Yacht Club appeared before the Council to <br />request permission for yacht owners to remain on board their boats overnight <br />preceding weekends and holidays,,, Councilman Anderson stated that he belieyed our <br />rules should be relaxed to tha extent. On motion of Councilman Anderson,.,. <br />X seconded by Councilman Fletcheri•.„this request was granted subject to.the approval <br />of the Recreation Commission and Clerk was instructed to write letter referring <br />the matter to them for their recommendations. <br />Communication received from the Sequoia Yacht Club requesting permission to hold'•their, <br />monthly meeting in the Yacht Club building, This request was included in the. <br />previous motion and clerk was instructed to send copy ,of the,motlon to 'the.' <br />Recreation Commission, <br />Councilman Anderson submitted report -'of Priorities Committee which, on motion of <br />Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman.Britschgi,;wae ordered filed. <br />City Manager Mead directed_to continue contact with the Southern Pacific Co. until <br />such time°as crossings were fixed -satisfactorily. Mr:. Mead advised that tempor <br />repairs had been made at Cedar Street and permanent repairs would be made as soon <br />4 <br />as the present change of rails was completed.
