MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING T
<br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL

<br />5:00 P. M.
<br />Upon roll call the following were present: Councilmen H. F. Anderson, C.A:-,Britschgi,
<br />E. A. Fletcher, W. W. Hilton, G. W. McNulty, Mayor F. D. Granger and City Clerk
<br />R. S. Dodge. Also.pres•,ent were City Manager R. W. Mead, City Attorney P. A.
<br />McCarthy, Police.Chief C. L. Collins, Fire Chief M. E. Ryan, Street-Superintendern
<br />H. L. Winter, City Collector N. L. Miramontes, and Building Inspector L. M. Dunca-i.
<br />Mr, C. C. -Armstrong, recently appointed as Councilman to fill the unexpired term to
<br />Mr. L. Jenkins, was sworn in by Clerk and took his seat with the Council.
<br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, minutes of meeting
<br />of May 39 19+3, were approved.
<br />Application for permit to conduct benefit dance on Saturday evenings May 2 nd, May 29-Ui,
<br />and June 5th, 19430 received from Foresters of .America.. Permit was granted and
<br />fee waived on motion of,Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Anderson.
<br />Communication from Mr. Ferris Miles, President of Chamber of Commerce advising of a
<br />called meeting of local manufacturers, High School representatives, Elementary
<br />School representatives and the County Welfare Department in the Council Chambers,
<br />Thursday night, May 20th at 7:30 p.m., was read. Letter stated that inasmuch as
<br />the City Council was vitally interested in the problem of child care for working
<br />mothers, the committee would like as many aa possible of the Councilmen to
<br />attend. Councilman Fletcher signified his intention of attending.
<br />Letter of resignation from the Personnel Board of Review from Mr. C. C. Armstrong,
<br />newly appointed councilman was read and accepted on motion of Councilman Anderson,
<br />seconded by .Councilman .Hilton.
<br />Communication received from Planning Commission making the following recommendations
<br />was read and acted upon as noted below:
<br />111.. Change the name of Canyon Road between Brewster and Westgate Avenues to
<br />Stanley Street in honor of Stanley Dodge one of the first Redwood City boys
<br />to lose his.lif a during the present war." On motion of Councilman Britschgi,
<br />seconded by Councilman Anderson, recommendatiowwas approved.
<br />112. Change the name of Saint Francis Avenue between Harding and Vera Avenues to
<br />Saint Francis Street. This recommendation is in line with the policy of
<br />having streets run parallel with El Camino Real and avenues at right angles
<br />therefrom." Approved on motion of Councilman Hilton, seconded by Councilman
<br />McNulty.
<br />113., Change the name of Sequoia Avenue between Roosevelt Avenue and the present
<br />termination of Sequoia Avenue, one block .southerly from Redwood Avenue to
<br />Saint Francis Street". On motion of Councilman Britschgi, seconded by
<br />Councilman Armstrong, recommendation approved.
<br />City Attorney McCarthy directed to prepare proper ordinances to cover.
<br />Communication received from Mr. Frank DePatta,.Chairman of Salvage for Victory
<br />Committee, to which was attached check in amount $929.73 covering sale of salvage
<br />materials, was read and pn motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman
<br />Hilton, was referred to War Council. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded
<br />by Councilman McNulty, clerk was directed to write Mr. DePatta expressing the
<br />appreciation of the Council for his splendid work.
<br />Building Inspector Duncan reported that A. J. Hynding, owner of the old barn on which
<br />abatement had been ordered, would shortly tear down and rebuild a garage on the
<br />premises.
