Colonel Skeggs. explained briefly the plan which, ia.for a basic six <br />lane divided.higbway,, normal width 230 feet with a 40 foot dividing strip con- <br />)E;•stgining.enough space for two additional lanes still leaving sufficient area for <br />, dividing strip. Three grade separations are planned, one at Rogers Street, one <br />at Main Street, and one at Chestnut Street. Colonel Skeggs explained this,was a <br />postwar plan, but that the state•was proceeding with plans; acquiring rights -of. <br />way, etc., so that immediately after termination of war and as soon as granted <br />permission by,Federal_Government they would be able to proceed with the work. 1. <br />Engineer, Cesna set up a map 'covering the project which was examined by <br />members of the Council, discussed at length, after which agreement between the <br />City and the State was presented for consideration. Cn,motion of Councilman <br />Fletcher, seconded by -Councilman Anderson, general plan was approved, agreement <br />to be studied by City Attorney McCarthy and brought up at nextrmeeting, July 19th, <br />•f,or final disposition. <br />City Attorney McCarthy read a communication from Dick Graves of League of Municipalities <br />regarding wartime census stating that in his opinion benefits can be expected to <br />continue beyond one year time. <br />Communication read from Mr. Frank DePatta, chairman of Salvage Committee turning over <br />three checks from Metal and Thermont Corp. covering tin can drives for April, May <br />-band June totaling $129.79. On motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded by <br />,•Councilman MdNulty, checks were ordered turned over to War Council. <br />h Mr. John Layng appeared stating he had leased the ice house opposite his place of <br />,I € <br />n -business, and that the building was filled with paper picked up by boy scouts <br />sometime ago, asking what could be done to have the paper removed. He was advised <br />that this matter would be his own responsibility as the City had no means of <br />disposing of --this material. <br />Adjournment. <br />R. S.
