After general discussion, Councilman Britechgi.moved, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, <br />that City Manager Mead make application for special war -time census. Motion <br />carried. Councilman Armstrong voting -no. <br />'Councilman Fletcher offered resolution concerning 1/4¢ gas tax funds to be used in <br />the repair of Brewster Avenue between Bayshpre and Chilton St. Motion carried <br />unanimously on roll call. <br />City Attorney McCarthy reported that Mr...P. Sorenson -had signed consent to agreement <br />`whereby he would be liable to reimburse the City for any expense necessary to <br />"remove,equipment from Hopkins Street. <br />City Attorney McCarthy reported that old suit covering collision between Sergeant <br />Thrope and Mrs.I;uellin in 1933 had been revived and that the City was obligated <br />•r°'to satisfy judgement with the possibility of recovering a part or all of the <br />'money from the receiver of the insurance company under which City was insured at <br />the time of accident. On motAlon of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman <br />Anderson, payment of judgement together with accumulated interest, was <br />-authorized. <br />Mr. J�. R. Lazarus, representative of the Pacific Coast Electrical Association appearec <br />before the Council regarding an ordinance regulating the sale of unsafe <br />• -electrical appliances. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman <br />Anderson, matter placed on the agenda for the next meeting at which time City <br />Attorney and Building Inspector will give" their recommendations. <br />Mayor Granger brought up question of deferments for City employees entering armed <br />F1 <br />_.,e; -services, stating that City Manager Mead had requested another deferment. Mayor �^ <br />Granger's position was that the City had set the policy while under a former <br />City Manager that nothing should be done to keep City.employees out of military F <br />services.• City Manager Mead stated that practically all cities were asking <br />q 'deferment on police and firemen, stating that he thought it necessary to make <br />°°such a request where necessary to keep up the standards of the department in- <br />volved. Councilman Fletcher and Britechgi stated that in their opinion such <br />matters should be left entirely to. the City Manager and Councilman Fletcher so <br />moved, seconded by Councilman --Brit15chg1, On recording vote,,orr "roll call the <br />following resulted: <br />Ayes: Councilmen Anderson, Britschgi, Fletcher and McNulty. <br />Noes: Councilmen Armstrong, Hilton and Granger. k <br />i <br />Motion carried. <br />Claims Nos. 2886, 2887, 2894 to 2929, inclusive, totaling $14,436.65, were approved <br />for payment. <br />i <br />Adjournment. <br />R.
