Councilman 13ritschgi moved, seconded by Councilman <br />Fletcher, that Mr. 14cCle�,ry be authorized to remove the tree and present <br />the bill ^t the time of its removal, ;.t which time the amount may be <br />transferred from the unbudaeted reserve, to cover the amount. <br />Annlication of Messrs. Broom and McDonnell for nPrmissicn to erect a service <br />station at El Camino Real and Lincoln Avenue ;-,as considered. City Attorney <br />reported thrt he had failed to locate a.n ordinance requiring• furnishing of <br />scale of dr^tivings of proposed structure. -Councilman Anderson moved that <br />L M <br />permit be granted subject to all buildin7 requirements and conditions. <br />Motion seconded by Councilman McDlulty. On -the question, Councilman <br />I <br />Armstrong stated that he felt this should be referred to the Planning Com- <br />misFion, as in his opinion there should be a limit to the number of ser- <br />vice stations allowed on El Camino Real. City Attornev McCarthy stated <br />that in his opinion the Council would have no discretion to deny a per- <br />mit if it is a creditable station, since El Camino Real is .zoned for <br />businecd. ?;lotion unanimously passed. <br />Application was received from Claude Hoggett, American Advertising Comna.ny <br />for erection of a,siJn on Bayshore Highway, using old holes already in <br />place at the site. Councilman Granger protested granting the permit on <br />the ground that once a sign is down, the right to erect another in its <br />place is forfeit Pd and the structure iron which 'sign «`s ,-laced, must be <br />token down. Councilmr.n Armstrong favored granting the permit because of <br />the precedent established in t�ranting permit to the Chamberlin Company <br />for sign. Councilman Anderson rointed out that since that ras a. direc- <br />tionnl sign to an industrial ,ret: in Redwood City, its purpose was dif- <br />ferent from a purely advertising sign. :After some discussion, on motion <br />of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, permit was L; <br />denied; on roll cull, motion carried, Councilman Armstrong and Britsc'ngi <br />voting in the negative. <br />Application was received from 71.
