Buhler, urged that the ordinance be <br />changed to permit dancing and other activities in the first residential <br />district, speaking ^t length on the desirability of such activities in the <br />community, and criticising the lock of such opportunities for the people <br />in Redwood.City. <br />Councilman Granger st^ted if the city were to send out notices to the <br />people in that "reg within 275 feet of the Buhler home, nsking if they <br />did or didnot object to the dnncing sohool, and 68 n^mes Tere received <br />which i,ould,be 75% of 80% of the people, .the Council would be obliezed to <br />reco%7nize the fact that as those people had certain property rights, their <br />decision should preveil. <br />Mr. Clark stated that he had a second petition he wished to present later <br />along that line, containing 73 signatures protesting against reFoning from <br />first to second residential area. Ment/ people would sign the second petition <br />who for personal or business reasons did not wish to sign the first one <br />submitted. Mr. Clnrk presented m4.:) indicetinrr all property owners who had <br />signed in second petition. <br />A woman sneaking in Mrs. Buhler's behrlf called attention to a petition <br />submitted some time ago, requesting retention of Mrs. Buhler's school. <br />Mayor Hilton called her attention to the fact that the petition contained <br />sign^tures of people scattered throughout the city, and not property owners <br />directly ^ffpcted, and read several names of individu^ls far from that <br />location. <br />Mrs. Buhler spoke in her own behalf, urging th-t ordinance be changed to <br />include dancing in the first residential area, as the only place available <br />now is Forester's Hn.11 -which she considered objectionable for children's <br />classes. City end County Planning- Commissioner.Ronnld 0,m..-nbell suggested <br />revisini ordinn.nce iritn certain permissive fe^,tures to be regulated by the <br />City Council and certain restrictions as to the type of building or room <br />in :inion these activities mimht be conducted. <br />After considerable discussion by the proponents Fnd opponents of the <br />ordin-nce, Councilm^_n Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that <br />the proper administrative officers be instructed to carry out the provisions <br />of trip existing ordinance. Motion passed on'roll cell, Councilman Anderson <br />and Fletcnor and Britschgi voting in the negetive. <br />Concilman McNulty moved, seconded by Councilmen sr^ngPr, that the City <br />Council meet some evpning rt a caucus meeting in the near future and that <br />the City Attorney a.nd Planning Commission be present, to draft an ordinance <br />that will be acceptable when it comes before them for adoption, that will <br />fix this thine once and for -r11.
